Dax is the product of an illicit affair between a wood elf warrior and a human widow living in Bogtown. Raised by his mother, Eliza Harewell, for his first fifteen years, he grew up as one of the kids, even apprenticing to the local cooper. But as he approached adult-hood, his father's looks started to become apparent, he became the target of teasing and bullying.

Eliza took him to the Thornswild Forest and eventually located his father, Erlethan Isilmaica. Dax was not keen on leaving Bogtown, despite the teasing, but he was assured he would be able to visit his mother regularly.

The next decade and half saw his father teach him to handle weapons and to hunt. But, just like in Bogtown, he was never fully accepted by the elves. Still the time spent in the woods with his father taught him many useful lessons and even the elves had to admit he was a stalwart warrior.

When the call came to explore the fabled Barrowmaze, he saw it as an opportunity to make his mark as his own man. He hoped to provide his mother with enough coin so she can live her remaining days in Ironguard Motte away from the scruff of Bogtown.
