Thelonius is a far traveler, transported to the wilderness outside Tokua from his monastery on the other side of the continent. He comes in search of something called the golden goat. He doesn't know if it is a real goat, a statue, or something else completely.

Thelonius was transported from his monastery high in the mountains in the east to a former holy sight. That place, now called the Ruins of Raymund, was long ago destroyed by mysterious force, although the gateway from the east still worked. The ruins were abandoned, so Thelonius departed southward, eventually reaching Castlewood, then Midwood, where townsfolk mentioned old tales of magical items hidden in the Smoldering Moor near Tukoa. Hoping that maybe someone there (the Seer Modred) may know more of such things, he headed further east, finally reaching the trail to Tukoa. It was on that trails that he met the merchant caravan of Eveline Pendergraas and its strange goblin bodyguard.
