Benedict Beckett

Name: Benedict Beckett
Age: 47
Alliance: Resistance – Former Conqueror of the Trials
Position: Lead technology expert for the Resistance. Helps with smuggling operations from Valport Main.
Information: Born and raised an Ignoble, Benedict Beckett has experienced everything that Valport has to offer those not blessed to be born with Illustrian blood running through their veins. He has experienced the hunger. The sickness. The yearning for opportunities that were always just out of his slummed-born reach. The loss.

He was drawn to technology from a very young age, but since his opportunities were not the same as others, he had to settle with being self-taught. In a way, that was beneficial to him because he learned his way around computers by diving into them freehand. He learned what worked…and what didn’t. He always had his nose in manuals and outdated copies of magazines, books, and other literature he could find that revolved around tech. He even made it a point to watch televised events about new technology coming out of Valport main.

At the age of 17, he won an amazing opportunity – a summer internship at one of the largest technology manufactures in the country. It was here he got another taste of the way Ignobles are treated by the upperclassman – any idea he presented to his superiors was deemed ‘no good’, but similar inventions would be unveiled months later.

At the end of the summer, he knew the only way to continue doing what he loved was to partake in the games that the Illustrians loved so much. So, he submitted his name to Trials and was selected. He was not expected to survive because he was more intellectual than brawn, but that is how he bested them and came out victorious – a Conqueror. Not long after his win, he married Amelia Rowan, his school sweetheart from the Ignoble class.

Now that he was a Conqueror – an Illustrian – everyone wanted him. Over the next few years, he used his winnings to increase his wealth and gain access to resources, but he knew the bitter seed and grudge against the Illustrians people would never go away, and he would never be one of them.  The whispers of a movement outside of Valport caught his attention, and after months of dead ends, he finally found a contact. During this time, Amelia became pregnant with their child, which only encouraged Benedict to learn more about life outside of Valport.

Five years after his win, Benedict used his skills to access every television in Valport and played a pre-recorded video where he openly discussed the discrepancies with their government. He encouraged the Ignobles to stand up for themselves. During the viewing, he, Amelia, and their new child loaded into the back of a transport truck to cross the border-free of Valport, where he could raise his children in a classless environment not filled with judgment because of their status.

They almost made it.

The undercover transport trucks were discovered and overtaken by Vanguard. Several of the trucks were hit with explosives, which took out the supplies and the people in them. Benedict barely survived. Amelia and their child did not. He made it, bleeding and broken, to the Outlands and a Resistance compound. For months after, he wished he had died in the explosion with his wife and child. The pain during healing, especially without proper medical care available, was excruciating. He was just as broken mentally.

Over the past 24 years, Benedict has helped the Porter family and Felix Wilde establish solid communication and technology inside the Resistance. It is not advanced as Valport’s since they manage with what can be smuggled out of the proper. He also helps with the smuggling operations and planning.
