Iren Th’atyil was born on the colony world Weytahn.  Settled shortly before the founding of the Federation, Weytahn was never rich.  The only sign of poverty is the slow decay of the civic architecture built in a surge of development initiated shortly after the formation of the Federation.  Weytahn’s population never grew to the size anticipated by the builders, and the world is largely a forgotten backwater now.

Iren’s parents, Shonaath, Bahl Th’atyil, Syzao and Jhori still live on Weytahn, as does his elder sister Seri.

Iren’s last tour of duty was a deep space exploration mission aboard the Cheyenne Class ship, USS Ahwanee.  The Ahwanee had the misfortune of returning just in time to be sent to Wolf 359 at maximum warp, without time to resupply.  Damage sustained in the engagement caused the captain to give the order to abandon ship.  Iren was literally dragged to the escape pods.  The Ahwanee suffered less damage than most ships at the battle and a salvage effort is being mounted.

At Starfleet Academy Iren casually dated an Orion girl named Jaivu.  She’s currently serving as an engineer on Starbase 11.  They still get together when work - and the absence of other attachments permit.  Iren credits her with helping him get over Wolf 359, more than the Starfleet counsellors.

Iren is not physically impressive, standing only 5’ 9” tall and of slim build.
