Growing up poor as the son of a alcoholic mother and an absentee father, Jerome had to mature fast and learn to take care of both himself and his two younger brothers. He was never a big thinker and his grades suffered from all the extra work, ensuring that he would never make it anywhere, but he didn't complain but did his duty every day.

Awakening to life as a changeling didn't change the basic facts of his life, only extended them. He had responsibilities as a warrior Troll, keeping the neighbourhood safe from hostile chimera and Ravaging Unseelie. It all meant that he spent less time at home, and without much skill in courtly intrigue or the weaving of tales he is unlikely to ever see much reward for his valour, but still he does not complain. It is his duty.

Only sometimes does he wonder if he is truly performing thankless tasks because he is humble and honourable, or if he does so because he secretly hates himself. However, he quickly pushes such thoughts aside. There is, after all, work to be done.
