Hafjian

Some of this is secret to PCs, but as players, it's no fun if you don't know. Things that aren't yet general-knowledge, I'll put in italics.

Name: Hafjian (Loukas Hafjian)
Height: 6'1" Weight: 212 lbs, Age: 17
Species: Human

Appearance: Solid, tall. He's built like a big rural kid, but he's surprisingly quick and quiet when it's called for.

Personality: Loyal. Splits his time between being a good 'teammate' for the Guild and his special talents. Ferocious negotiator, wants what he's owed. Impulsive about what he does (he doesn't consider other options, planning isn't his strong suit), but perfectionist about how he does it, once he decides. Not big on violence; avoids overly-elaborate plans ("They go bad, and then you've just stood around planning nothing.")

Background: "Hafjian" is a pretty common last name. He turned up in the demimonde (Port Azure's 'shadow-world') a few months ago. He's not been tracked, so nobody's really sure where where he goes when he's not 'on the job'. Best guess is he's a runaway peasant kid trying to 'breathe city air'.

Loukas is Free member of the Azurine Guild of Cartographers, Surveyors and Chartmakers, having recently finished his apprenticeship. The Cartographer's Guild has the legal right to "borrow" any maps brought into Port Azure 'by land, sea, air or sudden apparition'. Usually this is worked out rather than demanded (for instance they pay harbor fees for any ship that lends its navigation charts and log), but sometimes things don't work right. No matter. The Guild will have its maps. (It really doesn't matter what they are so long as they're to real things, and aren't actively cursed or something.)

When he was an apprentice, someone in the Guild noticed his skills at sneaking out and other 'thiefly' activities. He's been tasked with "borrowing" (and when possible "returning" without notice) rare and valuable maps.

So long as he doesn't drag them into it, and it ends up with the Guild being owed a useful favor, the Guild doesn't mind "side business".

He still sneaks in and out past the guards and master of the Guild places he uses, and still performs other duties (making and selling maps, etc), but generally acts as a sort of special agent of sorts.

He basically thinks of this as part of his job. He was 'hired' from a rural village, and thinks of the Guild as his 'new village'. (He might even marry a Guild members' daughter). This is going to get him in trouble someday, as the very top of the Guild views the Guild as something between a little kingdom of their own, a source of power and a battering ram to use on other factions.

He isn't aware of what other 'special resources' they might have, if any.
