Darkling was an Olympic level speed skater and represented Canada in the Winter Olympics when she was sixteen.  She gained a bronze medal but her career ended when her powers kicked in and it stopped being a sport any more.  She could run incredibly fast, but with a pair of powered inline skates, she was soon outrunning motorcycles.

She also had the ability to pull the light from any place, reducing it to darkness, which she could then fill with illusions based on people's fears and desire, which she was able to sense instinctively.

She has to be the gentlest, sweetest of souls lest she manifest the nightmares of all around her, even mundanes.  This would not be good.
