Maeve Harper

Nearly twenty-seven, unmarried, and independently wealthy, Maeve is known for her blunt tongue and her inability to stay out of trouble.

Maeve was born to an American father (Jack Harper) and a British mother (Viola Marshall) in London, where her parents lived at the time. Her father was a successful businessman who headed up various business conglomerates, such as hotel chains, banks, and restaurants, turning less profitable businesses around and making a fortune in the process. Her mother, meanwhile, pursued an interest in fashion, becoming known for her edgy styles. The marriage was more of a partnership than a love match, in the end, and each parent lived his or her own life. It was an amiable relationship, though, and it was not until Maeve was older that she realized her parents were unusual.

She lived her early years in London, before her father took up a new challenge in New York, where she remained until she returned to England study at Cambridge: after an undergraduate degree in history, she went on to receive an MA in natural sciences.  The family travelled extensively throughout her childhood and adulthood, exposing her to a myriad of cultures, languages, and persons of both good and ill repute.

After her father’s death in her early twenties, Maeve found herself independently wealthy and able to continue her unusual life in whatever manner she saw fit.
