Appearance:

Vylana Xan seems to be somewhere in her late thirties. She also looks to be in excellent health, and while she is slender, she has a lithe power to her. She is clearly someone who takes care of herself, and knows very well how to handle herself in a difficult situation. She has the tell-tale detailed brown spot pattern across her face, and presumably everywhere else all the way down her body. Her skin is otherwise pale. Her eyes are dark brown, and attractive. Her nose is straight, affording a classical profile. Her very dark hair is worn tied back in a pony tail when she is on duty, giving her a rather severe appearance at times, but when she is off duty she wears it in loose, dark curls, framing her face. Her voice is usually calm, quite refined, and never contains any hint of prevaracation or indecision. She presents the epitome of the career officer.


Personality:

Commander Xan is a professional officer, who takes her duties very seriously. She looks after the welfare of the crew with as much zeal as she does the captain and their ship. She expects people to be efficient, and do their jobs to the best of their ability. But she would not ask anybody to do anything dangerous she would not want to do herself.

Outside of work, she is a much more relaxed person. She is endowed with a rather dry sense of humour, and enjoys being helpful. She has a slightly hedonistic tendency, and enjoys good food, a good relaxing massage, and relaxing on the beach with a book. She especially enjoys music, and plays several instruments - almost certainly the result of her symbiont formerly existing in a life where music was of vital importance.



History:

2333 - Born, Trill

Underwent all the usual tests and education one would expect for a Trill, and was confirmed as suited to host a symbiont in her twelfth year. She underwent all the complex education and preparation over the next few years, and was eventually joined at the age of eighteen.

2351 - Joined to the Xan symbiont. She is the fourth host for this symbiont. The previous incarnations are:

Callas Xan, an orchestral composer on Trill, who achieved some significant success as a musician and composer throughout Federation space during his lifetime, although was never considered to be one of the top tier of composers. (Joined age 20, Died age 78)

Ventrix Xan, who served in Starfleet as an intelligence officer with a variety of different placements, and a long and distinguished service record. He finally retired having achieved the rank of Admiral (Joined age 25, Died age 81)

Melia Xan, (Joined age 19, Died age 32) A Starfleet science officer, she served on the USS Intrepid NCC-38907. She was gravely wounded during an accident on an away mission, and when it was made clear that she was unlikely to recover, she immediately requested return to Trill. She lived another six weeks, but spent almost the entirety of that time in a coma.




2352 - Once given full clearance by Trill to leave following her successful adaptation to the symbiont, she leaves to enter Starfleet Academy, aged 19.

2356 - Four year training at the Academy is completed.

Assigned Ensign to the frigate USS Renegade NCC-63102 under Captain Lau. Assignment was to tactical. USS Renegade was sent to the Cardassian front, where casualty rate was high.

2358 - After only eighteen months, she was transferred off the USS Renegade, and promoted to lieutenant, although it was fairly obvious that this promotion and reassignment came entirely due to the fact her symbiont had extensive prior experience. She was sent to receive specialist training with Federation Intelligence.

2359 - As relations with the Tzenkethi were deteriorating rapidly, she is sent to a station near the Tzenkethi border to act as intelligence operative, specifically looking into logistics and troop movements by the Tzenkethi. Three months after the outbreak of war in 2360, the station was attacked, and she had to depart.

2364 - She was promoted to Lt Commander, and assigned as chief tactical officer on board the USS Hood  NCC-42296. She boarded the vessel at Deneb IV, having been transported there on the USS Enterprise (this being Encounter at Farpoint, coincidentally.) She remained in this position for four years, which included several notable operations (TNG Episodes: The Defector, Alleigance, Tin Man, Redemption II) until she was once again recalled from active service on board the ship

2364 - 2370 ALL RECORDS REDACTED^*

2371 - Offered a place on the newly commissioned USS Orion NCC-26347 as Executive Officer, and promotion to Commander. Her tactical knowledge was of course extremely useful, but her knowledge of intelligence procedures was also considered valuable, as the galaxy was clearly a lot less safe than it had been, and exploration missions often ran into situations where diplomacy or intelligence could prove more decisive than a show of force. She was brought to Utopia Planitia, where she was able to supervise the final stages of fitting, as well as handling the crew assignment, and general administration required for a ship being prepared for service. She was also able to command the simulations, and then the physical tests, to confirm the function of the vessel. She commanded during the final trials, and after six months, is as familiar as anybody can be with the running of the ship, as well as her own idiosyncracies - and those of the crew.
