Overall Appearance: Paige is a slender woman of middling height. Her dark brown hair is usually tied back in a ponytail or braids, whatever is easiest to keep it out of her face. She has a naturally slender frame, bordering on gaunt, because who has time to stop and eat? Paige has a classic girl next door type of beauty, but her pretty features are often marred by a harried expression.

Personality: Paige is a small town girl who has had to work very hard to get where she is. She is driven and focused when she needs to be, as evidenced by the full ride scholarship she earned to med school. When all of her high school friends were busy getting drunk and fooling around, she was studying and working part time jobs to save for school. She’s not afraid to have a little fun, she simply prioritizes other things most of the time. Between her hectic schedule and her innate shyness, making friends isn’t something that comes easily to her. Once you get to know her though, she is a dedicated friend with a sharp wit, a quirky sense of humor and a seemingly endless supply of baked goods to share - her mom sends her weekly boxes from home.

History: The first of two children born to Jason and Mia Mckinley, Paige’s early life could have fit comfortably onto a poster outlining the most ‘normal’ upbringing in the USA. Her father worked for the US Forest Service and her mom stayed at home, raising the children and running their small farm in the tiny Baca County in Colorado. She grew up loving the outdoors, doing everything from helping her mom with their animals to hunting with her father, skiing in the winter and rock climbing in the summer, hiking and swimming and the like filling the memories of her childhood.
It was on one such outing that Paige’s desire to become a doctor was born. She was 11 years old. Paige and her family had managed a very rare getaway to go camping in the next county over. The trip turned tragic when another young child at the campgrounds was stung by a bee - his parents did not know he was allergic, and without an epipen or access to immediate medical help, he died of anaphylactic shock. And while Paige hadn’t known the boy previously, had barely even spoken to him before the fatal sting, his death had a profound effect on her. Her one clear memory of the event was of watching the adults, a dozen of them or more, frantically trying to figure out what to do. None of them knew what to do to help him. She remembered their panic, and their ineffectual attempts to do something, anything, to prevent tragedy. And all she could think was that when she was a grown up, she would be the one who knew what to do.
The trajectory of her life set, Paige dedicated herself to becoming a doctor. Her parents didn’t have the money for med school, but hard work (and a little luck) landed her the scholarships she needed to make her way to and through Colorado University Medical School. During her undergraduate years, she discovered that she had a knack for and interest in surgery, and so despite the protests of her parents, applied to the surgical residency program. With a surgical placement far away in sunny California, it would be Paige’s opportunity to get away from her well meaning but slightly overprotective parents and strike out on a more independent path.
