Malthos

Appearance

Malthos stands six foot tall, and around hundred eighty pounds. He has a short-cut brown beard and hair pulled back on his head and in double braids. He has ice-blue eyes and handsome angular facial features and he has a lean agile build body with wiry muscles. He has a deep-cut scar over his right eye (and dozen more across his body hidden by his clothing). But here where any human-looking elements end, his skin is red with mostly bright but some darker spots. He has a pair of curling horns on his forehead and has long flexible tail with a spiky spade tail in the end. He has slightly pointed ears.

He wears dark and dark grey clothing, he wears traveler boots, a water/weatherproof hooded dark cape, and carries a well-filled traveler backpack and besides that hangs in leather cover a well-made mandolin made from rosewood. He also has a bit fancier-looking leather gloves with finger parts cut off. Sometimes a silver medallion is seen, a medallion shaped like lips pursed into a kiss. Overall rakish look.

Personality

Malthos is a bold, confident, lascivious and rake of a man who embraces passion, joy, and pleasures of life in all its forms. But especially in carnal sort. However he despite his pursuit of women respects free will and consensual agreements on such fields (and is more than fine for one-night stands than building long-term relationships) but he has absolutely no shame for himself. He has a serious chip on his shoulders against anyone who discriminates against him (or other) tieflings because 'they are tieflings'.

He seriously hates and dislikes those who ruin other's happiness, so he himself avoids doing that. Besides bedroom fun, he finds enjoyment in pulling pranks, innocent cons, or performing on stage as a performer. Albeit he firmly denies being a bard at all. He is a very spontaneous person and easily driven to do good on whim, but same token denies something on a whim if he 'doesn't feel for it'.

Allies and Enemies

Mabib is one the slaves he rescued in Athkatla, City of Coin in Amn. He delivered all other ex-slaves to Baldur's Gate in a long journey, but Mabib did not feel comfortable in a heavily urban city and the journey back to his home country Chult was nearly impossible from Baldur's Gate and otherwise given the circumstances. So Mabib travels for now alongside Malthos, trying to keep him out of worst trouble and providing his excellent hunter and scouting skills in gratitude for Malthos and his lover's efforts to free him and others.
He Of Many Masks is one who taught 'everything' being rogue, a beguiler, and a member of Shadow Thieves to Malthos. Considering he betrayed the guild in freeing the slaves and his lover taking quite a few of the guild members in the battle against them, he is wanted man for death but mostly his betrayal is reflected on his mentor/father figure. There are conflicting feelings; He Of Many Masks was a man who took care of him and was closest to the father figure Malthos ever had as an orphan who was brought to the guild. But he is also a man who slew the love of his life before him, so deep hatred has mostly replaced his feelings.

Background

Malthos grew up in the city of Athkatla in Amn, the city of coin, and was early on recruited by Shadow Thieves residing in the city. He learned the practice of roguish trade from a senior shadow thief, the same mentor also inducted him into the arts of beguiler to help blend in with his surroundings and disguise his appearance as tiefling cause it drew attention far too easily. His license to use magic was provided by Shadow Thieves organization through a bribe, so he could cast spells and do unsavory business unhindered.

Malthos for the most part viewed Shadow Thieves like a family, a violent and deadly family if wronged but a family in regards to cooperation and that his tiefling nature did not matter to fellow members and was the source of jokes. He grew successful and enjoyed a hedonistic lifestyle which eventually led to a dalliance with a priestess of Sharess in one feast hall in Athkatla which flourished into fierce passion and romance. Showing him what true love meant. She was a female aasimar from Mulhorand called Nulara Ziana.

Sadly she came across some of his colleagues in the docks, doing slave trafficking and she intervened, then asked Malthos to help to get slaves freed (disappointed to discover he was part of Shadow Thieves but promised to forgive him entirely if he helped her). Malthos, like a fool, thought he could pull it off and rescue his lover without getting caught. Result she died as she bought time for him and the slaves to escape further north she battled guild members until she was slain by Malthos mentor as they escaped by boat. He is no longer welcome at Amn, without a lover and having responsibility for slaves which leads him to get to Baldur's Gate and then fade and disappear there to shake off any potential Shadow Thieves tracking him down.

Since then he has changed his ways in honor of his lover and the only memento from her is her holy symbol which he carries with him and follows the teachings of the Sharess in her honor.
