1360 DR Year of the Turret

Itís been several years since the gods walked the land, yet FaerŻn still has much healing to do.  Many followers of the fallen gods still remain faithful, refusing to give their faith over to the new gods of the realms.  The weave of magic is scarred in many areas, perhaps never to be repaired.  And even though rumors have spread that the horde of the east has been defeated, fear of further invasion holds the land in stasis.  Rulers are unwilling to stand their armies down. Most of the heroes and seasoned adventurers of the land that have not fallen are in the service of hunting down any remains of the horde and protecting our weakened lands from other dangers.  Who knows what evils may have slipped by unnoticed while FaerŻn was busy with other matters.

But what does this have to do with you?  Perhaps nothingÖ perhaps everything.  Your future is not clear.  For now your immediate concern is a little less oppressive, you are traveling with a caravan west along the Moonsea Ride into Cormyr.  It is a day from reaching a waypost at the foothills of the Thunder Peaks.  There you should finally get a good nights rest before the 5-day haul which will take you through the Thunder Gap and on to Tilverton.

Welcome to Dark Horizon, this is the vague intro to what could become a long campaign.  I say "could" because it depends on the decisions that the players make along the way.  This story will start out with an opportunity for what seems to be a short adventure but can lead too much more.  It is the evolution of a campaign I ran over 15 years ago in a much simpler form.  A lot of thought has gone into this campaign but Iíve tried to keep from planning too much since I donít want to lead the players through my story, I want the players to help me make the story.  There will be plenty of adventure, combat, mystery and deception no matter what paths you choose.

If you want to join the game, please follow the instructions in the "How to Request to Join" thread.

This adventure is set in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (FRCS), it is not necessary that you own the FRCS but it may help.  I do require that you have access to the D&D 3.5 Players Handbook (PHB), and have a basic understanding of how to play D&D.

  • Game System: Dungeons and Dragons3.5 Edition, I stick fairly close to the rules.
  • Game Style: Role-Play is the main focus, I like to write and like players that like to write but you still have to adhere to the D&D rules.  Combat will not be ignored, I feel combat is a big part of a D&D game and I like to play out every turn, even if we only go through 2 turns in a week (though itís usually more).  I also use visual aides/maps whenever possible, especially for combat.
  • Writing Style: I write in legible English and expect my players to as well.  My grammar isnít the best (far from), but I try and expect the same from you (or even better).  Please no Internet jargon and shorthand typing while writing Ďin characterí, including emoticons/smilies.  OOC posts excluded, feel free to release in the OOC board if necessary.
  • Campaign Setting:  Forgotten Realms (Starting in the Dalelands heading into Cormyr)
  • Time: Year of the Turret (Uktar [The 11th month] 1360 DR)
  • Number of Players: 4-6
  • Levels:  Starting characters (1st Level) I will be advancing characters fairly fast through the first few levels.
  • Ability Scores: 4d6x7 drop lowest die drop lowest score.  All characters will be rolled up using the rpol dice roller after you are accepted to the game.
  • Races Allowed: Most from the books I own (below) *
  • Classes Allowed: Any from the books I own (below) * Clerics must use the FR Deities.
  • Alignment: Any non-evil.
  • Books I own:  Players Handbook, Dungeon Masters Guide, Monster Manual, Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, Rules Compendium.
  • Number of Posts: 2-3 per week excluding weekends.  My posts are always well thought out and take a lot of time to produce.  I am usually busy on weekends so most of the time I will only post on weekdays.
  • When do we play? I will be accepting applications until July 22nd 2008 and pick players after that. The game will probably start by the first week of August, this should give us plenty of time to create characters and work on backgrounds.
