Thandraug

Thandraug Carandol Lithaldoren, or simply Draug, is an elf dedicated to the natural world. From his grove deep in an old growth forest, he watches over many of the wooded places of the world. Even while nurturing things that grow, he burns those that wither to replenish the land and begin the cycle anew. He is a friend to beasts and all manner of fantastical creatures. He is a fearsome enemy to the unnatural and those who would seek to dominate or twist the cycles of life.

Those who make the trek to his domain in seek of wisdom, and who respect the life that dwells there, are received without violence and extended every courtesy. He may draw on the power of life to cure any affliction, even to reignite the spark within a dead creature. Those who hunt in excess of their need, or attempt to harvest the bounties of the forest en masse, meet any manner of ends that are only half-whispered in the towns and lands beyond the borders of the forest. Some see their compatriots turned to rabbits or frogs, or are simply struck by errant bolts of lighting from a cloudless blue sky.

There are frequently seen large packs of wolves running amidst the trees, moving with purpose and unnatural speed. Those who have tried to waylay these beasts have not lingered long. One sage studied their habits for a time, and determined that they were in fact on irregular but highly organized patrols of the forest boundary, like castle guards.

Draug spends much of his time in his grove, erecting standing stones from the bones of the earth, subtly changing weather patterns around his domain, and monitoring the health of the riot of life around him, gazing into a pool of clear mountain water.

When called to conflict, Draug arrives with little more than a slight breeze. He then calls forth titanic storms, molten rock from the earth's veins, beings of rock and acid and fire and ice, earthquakes that level buildings, great gales and tumbling boulders, all the sharpest weapons of the green Mother. When he departs the field, it is blasted and torn, a ragged heaping of broken bits and sluicing mud mixed with blood.

All things return to the earth. One way or another.
