Prodigy of the Kurohyuteinei
Though the Panther Clan has existed for generations before the creation of the village, much of their ways has been obscured by the clan members themselves.  Many of them make up the membership of ANBU and medical ninja because of their Kekkei Genkai and intellectual pursuits.

However, even the control of information from the clan could not stop this bit leaking through: Satoru is reputed to be the youngest Kurohyuteinei ever to awaken the clan's Doujutsu save for the founder of the clan himself.  This has caused some instability within the clan as he is a member of the branch family.

Panther Clan Philosopy
The Kurohyuteinei are a clan in name and blood only--they believe far more in individual goals and pursuits than they do in something as cohesive as a trusting, family unit.  Members are encouraged to use their wit and guile to use other members for their own purposes like pieces in a chess game.  Some would argue that this may not be the most conducive environment, but their prestige in the village speaks for itself.

There is a saying in the Village of the Jungle: Never cross a Kurohyuteinei lest you find yourself caught in their revenge scheme.

The Person Satoru Wants To Be
Despite being extremely talented as a ninja with his Kekkei Genkai and mental acuity, Satoru wants none of it.  The pressure of constantly being persecuted by members of his own clan has caused him irreversible emotional scarring.  He finds himself the most calm and content just sitting in nature where it is peaceful.  The concept of love and normalcy have never really crossed his mind.  All he wants is to finally reach a level of homeostasis in his psyche--to finally be at peace with the turmoil in his life.

Despite the fact that he may be a target for other shinobi wanting to prove they are the best, the thought of improving himself for his own sake has never crossed his mind.  In fact, Satoru does not want to become stronger at all.  He is naturally strong and the only training he does is that which has been forced by his clan.

Relationships

Perhaps they got off on the wrong foot, but the sucker punch that Hayato used as an introduction probably didn't help.  With the ensuing dialogue and the assumption that after being attacked Satoru would just help Hayato with his goals, the Panther prodigy believes Hayato to be nothing more than a self-absorbed person that he would rather have nothing to do with.  That being said, however, the two of them have struck a rather unsteady alliance since their goals both coincide.  They are likely getting to the point where they will be able to understand each other with mutual respect for each others' talents.

Kekkei Genkai and Kurohyuteinei Clan Hijutsu

The Eyes of the Predator
The Kekkei Genkai of the clan allows for a bit of diversity within their members: those that do not follow intellectual pursuits often find themselves assisting the ANBU as they make very good hunters while others who have found the flip side of their abilities able to become medical ninja.  None of these professions are looked down on by the members of the clan as while all are looking to use each other, all equally realize that strategically all these professions are necessary to survival--none of them are valued above the others.  If members of the clan manage the awaken the Kekkei Genkai, it usually takes place after they have gone well into their teenage years.

Specifically, the Kekkei Genkai is a Doujutsu--a transformation of the eye.  It is an ability that has to do with blood and the sensing of it, which is why they take their name from one of the most vicious predators in the jungle.  While development of the Doujutsu is not particularly rare, different abilities associated with it can be.  At the rudimentary level, the user's eyes change to a red color and they gain the ability to sense heart beats of creatures within the area around them.  Each creature's heartbeat is unique and a person with this ability can tell the difference between them.  Once they have sensed a creature's heartbeat, they can tell the difference between individual ones even if they may be under the effect of Henge no Jutsu (Transformation Technique) as the uniqueness of a heartbeat is very difficult to mask save for higher level medical techniques.  This makes them excellent ANBU trackers as once sensed, they can zero in on a particular heartbeat and follow it from far distances.  While in combat, it can give them a type of combat awareness as they can figure out where opponents and allies are even while behind them as well as their physical conditions.

Known Jutsu

Sappo (aka: Lethal Acupoint): The Panther clan Taijutsu style is one that incorporates many different types of hand and stance positions including Crane-style hand maneuvers, palm strikes, finger point attacks, knife hand edges, and closed fist strikes.  However, this style has little to no acrobatic movement as it focuses on movement in diagonal lines like a predator attempting to corner its prey.  Weight tends to be focused more on the back leg (about 70%) to allow the user to pivot on the foot to face behind him in case he is fighting multiple opponents and said pivot point is a focus for much of the Taijutsu style.  Instead of lunging forward on a diagonal by shifting weight to the front foot, the user can also step sideways at a forty-five degree angle to walk around the opponent to the side or back in order to attack unprotected areas.  The entire point of the style is to deal as much lethal damage as possible while crippling limbs in order to not allow the opponent to get an attack in edgewise because of the numbness and burst blood vessels.  Because this style is more physical than chakra-oriented, users' training usually involves extreme training to harden the hands like smashing them into bags of crushed metal in order to cause small fractures as once the fractures heal the hands become harder.  Users have been known to pierce metal armor with their bare hands.

NOTE: More on the Sappo stances will be written here once they actually are used in the storyline.  At this point, the above is all anyone outside the clan would know.

Family, Friends, and Enemies

Tsubaki Kurohyuteinei
The true heir to the Kurohyuteinei Clan, Tsubaki is a few years older than Satoru and has been Genin for at least a couple years and should be approaching the Chuunin exam at some point in the near future.  However, she is one of the many of their clan who have not achieved the use of the Doujutsu Kekkei Genkai.  The fact that Satoru has already awakened it at his age and not even entered the Academy yet has caused her to take a personal interest in his training.  She is intent on grinding his talent into the ground to save her position while seeming to take an avid interest in his achievements.  She demands that Satoru refer to her as "Onee-sama" or "Tsubaki-Oneesama."
