Standing just over six feet Mathew Crenis is the picture of the hard bitten Imperial Guard NCO.  His short brown hair is the same as it always was and his grey eyes are just as sharp, though he has a perpetual day or two of stubble on his face now that would have sent his former officers into fits.  Not that his irrepressible sense of humor didn't take care of that job anyway.

Mat hails from Elysia and is a former Drop Trooper.  Decorated numerous times for heroism Mat was due for a battlefield promotion into the officer ranks as a lieutenant.  Accordingly his regimental officers decided to give him an "induction ceremony".  Little did Mat know those words held a secret and terrible meaning.  They were going to induct him indeed, into their private cult dedicated to the Changer of Ways.  Details are sketchy but by the end of the night most of the regimental command staff was dead and Sergeant Crenis was facing a firing squad.  Saved by the intervention of the Holy Ordos, from a firing squad and the subsequent purging of his entire regiment, Mat continues to serve.
