Mattan Abirim

Jedi Master

Species: Human
Age: 38
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 189 lbs
Hair: Dark
Eyes: Blue
Complexion: Fair
Build: Solid

Jedi Master Mattan Abirim is widely respected throughout the modern Jedi Order as the foremost scholar on Sith philosophies.  Not content to spend his days cloistered in the academy studying what little information remains on the legacy of the Sith, Master Abirim has made it his life’s work to seek out lost knowledge and artifacts of the ancient Sith, and to secure them in the vaults of the Jedi Order so that it cannot fall into the wrong hands.

There are some who warn that the knowledge Master Abirim seeks is best left uncovered, lost forever in the darkness where it belongs.  But the council, including Master Skywalker, has long supported his work, agreeing with him that understanding the darkside is key to avoiding its allure.

Mattan Abirim is also known as one of the finest teachers of Jedi Knights, and has produced half a dozen very worthy Jedi throughout his career.  Though his work is dangerous, few disagree with the notion that his padawan learners have gone on to illustrious careers of their own.  Those younglings who graduate from the Jedi Academy and who are selected to become Master Abirim’s apprentices know they will receive the best instruction available among the rebuilding Jedi Order.

Personality and Description

People who know Mattan Abirim usually note that there is something deeply attractive about this serious, almost melancholy man who seems to care so much about the world that its darker imperfections almost sadden him.  That he chooses to immerse himself in these darkest of imperfections through his studies says something about him that words cannot.

He is not exactly beautiful, but his face is chiseled and strong, and his deep-set eyes mournful and penetrating.  He is solidly built and full of gravitas; the weight of a room always shifts toward him when he enters.  Although he is somewhere in his late 30s, he has a wisdom about him that should belong to a much older man.  He is a quiet man, observing those around him, and when he speaks he does so carefully and precisely.

Master Abirim is always kind to his padawan learners.  He guides them patiently, loving each as if they were his own children.  Those who have learned under him are often loyal to a fault, and they come to trust him implicitly.  If a criticism can be made of his teaching, it is only that too many of his former students would sacrifice too much for him.
