Well-built and athletic, Applejack's bright orange coat, freckled face, and trademark stetson hat stand out in a crowd. She's not much bigger than other ponies of her age, though she's built more solid than most other Earth Ponies of similar size. Her blond mane and tail are often bound back in some fashion, most typically a straight tail bound both at top and bottom. Her bangs are a slightly messy blond, left free, though out of her big, green eyes. Aside from her hat, AJ doesn't dress up much, but she does clean up nicely the few times she's let somepony get her dolled up for something.

Reliable and hard-working, Applejack is known to Ponyville as a dependable friend and local hero. Besides being the steadfast backbone of the Elemental Harmony Squad, she's saved the town, along with her friends, from a mess of disasters. Applejack, though, never really seeks the attention she gets for it - to her, it's the least she can do, and it's not really worthy of any big deal, because it's simply the right thing to do.
Applejack has an extensive biological family, but the closest of them to her heart are her little sister, Apple Bloom, big brother Big Macintosh, and Granny Smith. She's also come to find the honest truth in her heart, and has confessed her feelings for Rainbow Dash, who returned them, becoming her Special Somepony. Applejack also considers all of her friends to be as close as kin, and she would do anything for any one of them. She wants to adopt Scootaloo, with Rainbow Dash, but there are complications with that...
If Applejack can be said to have a true character flaw, it lies in her stubborn self-reliance. She doesn't like to burden other ponies, and even considers it a duty to take up the burdens her loved ones carry for them when she can. She is strong and enduring both physically and emotionally. Her friends, however, are able to convince her to share such burdens, but few others can.

Born and raised in Ponyville, Applejack has grown up amongst the other local ponies. Even growing up with Rarity, however, she had little in common with her from a young age, and played more with the colts than the fillies at school. She helped at Sweet Apple Orchard too, and grew up as an active, healthy, eager filly, if not always the brightest.
When she was younger, an awkward romantic fumble drove her out of Ponyville alone, courtesy of her childhood coltfriend Rogue Heart. Briefly, she left to the big city with family, the Oranges, but, after events conspired to bring her the realization of where she really belonged, she returned to the far and to Ponyville, bearing her bright and bold tri-apple cutie mark! Soon, she had met all of her dear friends, and the rest was history.
When Twilight came to Ponyville, and her adventures began, Applejack was a different pony than she is today. She's grown closer to her friends, stronger and more able to depend upon others. She's faced down challenges that would make less sturdy mares balk, and give brave stallions pause. Despite being an Equestrian hero, though, Applejack remains simply herself, loyal, brave, honest, and ever-ready to stand up for her friends, her Princess's, and herself.
