Penner is the Annalist of the Company and its head engineer. Penner is better at building things than he is destroying them, so he has a subordinate that leads the Company sappers. Everything that Penner builds was first drawn or written about. But not everything that Penner pens is built. In fact, Penner has the odd habit of making ridiculous designs as jokes. He hides those designs, for whatever reasons.

Penner is a young man just entering his twenty sixth year of his life. He is brilliant for his age, though he's never been gifted with any ability to use magic. Those that know him well enough know that he would be very good at using magic if he could use it. Penner, for his part, has a healthy respect for magic but tends to avoid it in any case.

Not of the biggest build, Penner stays just in shape enough to avoid letting fat accumulate on his body. He is a good runner, able to run quickly and for long amounts of time. He is a fair fighter, both with fists and sword, but isn't among the best. Instead, Penner prefers to do his job as Annalist and Chief Engineer, writing, drawing, and building.
