The campaign takes place on the world of Kahluyn (Kaa-lune), a planet approximately 1.5 times the size of earth and covered by massive pot-marked continents with lush vegetation.  The planet was once a largely aquatic world tens of millions of years earlier, but a massive event (likely a meteor shower of large proportions) triggered planet-wide volcanic activity that resulted in millions of archipelagos. Overtime and additional volcanic activity these island chains shifted and grew, eventually becoming stringed continents of land. These continents are filled with lakes and rivers and a great number of massive underground lakes as well. The surface water is fresh, resulting from the great amount of precipitation the planet receives, while most underground sources are salt water.  Six distinct continents are recognized across the globe, separated by large salt-water oceans.

Kahluyn was spared from front-line combat during the Golem War and operated more as a training and supply depot for Imperial Forces. Since the planet is the home of Terrans whose expertise with magical constructs is unrivaled Imperial soldiers often took part in combat training maneuvers against the Terrans powered magical suit corps in preparation for facing the Golems.  The forests and jungles of the world also provided a great deal of medicinal and stimulant drugs for the war effort.  After the war things became quiet once again, save for the droves of soldiers returning to their homes. Many places struggled to realign their economies and governments for peacetime after over a century of warfare.

Since each continent provided quite adequately for its populace intercontinental trade dwindled for many years, further exasperated by the rise of piracy. The nations worked to secure their borders and firmly establish their borders, as well as control the large migrant populations present during the final days of the Zhen Halan Empire. From these days of relatively isolationism prejudice and international animosity has risen, though it has also resulted in a very stable detente. Only recently have merchants and diplomats attempted at establishing firm relations with their neighbors, with the assistance of the Freelancers Guild.
