What Fades Away

The World of Ancerenth
Adrift upon almost invisible astral currents lies the planet Ancerenth.  Named such by the priesthood of the Aurelian pantheon and known by many, many names by both its inhabitants and its visitors.
Ancerenth has a single coppery moon which often appears at about the size of a clenched fist in the sky, its pale golden sun is bright and rises in the west and sets in the east.  There are three continents and thousands of islands.
Jhera - known as the tamed and learnt lands - lies within the eastern hemisphere of the world and spans about a third of the southern hemisphere as well.  It is home to the fortresses of the Clanholds upon its northern reaches; the sprawling, noxious hive clusters of the Weaver Collective along its centre; and to the south the flying cities and earthly outposts of the Ehuron Federation.
Muatal - the dragon lands - lies only within a quadrant of the northern hemisphere of the world and was once the mighty bastion of the Draconic Dominion.  With the mass extinction of the dragons the empire fell to their immediate servants.  The long gone kaetymic empire spawned the vast tribal territories of the kaetyma hordes, which dominates much of central, western and southern Muatal.  Along with the isolated northern strongholds of the monastic Golden Path.  To the east lies the Freeholds, cut-throat city-states vying against each other and the influence of foreign powers.
Nyraada - the golden lands - is Ancerenth's largest and most varied continent.  The history of the elder races hold Nyraada to be the birth place of each of them.  Most of the continent is part of the Empire of Dawn, original a militaristic human hegemony it gradually transformed into the vast merchantile empire it is today.  A portion of Nyraada recently fell out of the Empire of Dawn's control as the deserts that cover much of the southern "leg" of Nyraada was beset by sand spirits called the Saboon who cast out the Empire after many years of bloody war.

The Haunting of the Rose
The Dreadborn War had left the once Great Kingdom of the Crystal Isles devastated.  When the mind-flayer lich Phazion had been defeated, the thunderous spire which had been both the vehicle for his invasion of Ancerenth and his bastion of power upon the world was silenced.  Much of the massive undead armies the lich had commanded fell when their master did.  What remained of the army sealed itself away, awaiting a new master to lead them or tried to claim mastery over each other and the surviving settlements of the living.  These conquests failed and even the lost tombs which the remnants of the undead army had used to hide from the peoples of the Isles, were found, opened and the horrors within eradicated.
Three centuries have passed since then and the survivors of the war have flourished though they are far from the glorious era that had come before.  Many noble house now divide the many islands between themselves.  Often fighting with each other in myriad ways for control of their lands.
Most recently the barbarous hordes of Muatal, a continent to the north-west, set upon the isles at a fury and scale that had not been seen in over a thousand years.  Threatening to swallow up the bickering nations of the Crystal Isles.  If not for the recently crowned queen of Aria the Chief Warlord of the invaders would have succeeded. For she summoned the mythical Musadi to the immediate salvation and eventual dismay of the Isles.
The mighty race of aquatic, serpents drove the invaders back and while pursuing their prey back to their homeland also turned their attention to a world much changed to the one they had left when they had gone to sleep many tens of thousands of years prior.
A few years later another of the elder races, believed lost in the cataclysm which rent the small continent of Ursang into the Crystal Isles, returned.  The returned Narayah were less displaced in time then the Musadi yet no less strangers to the modern world.  Their homeland gone and their people slowly being consumed by a mysterious crystalline disease the narayah try to eek out an existence in the centuries abandoned, cavernous city of the k'yri while the politicking of the Isleborn threaten to embroiled the entire region in genocidal conflict.
