Lucien Fortesque

Lucien has one of those faces that makes him look anywhere from 30-50 (with the right styling) and he certainly doesn't discuss his true age... enjoying the mystery of it all.  He has shoulder length black hair, handsome features, and wandering gaze that seeks to satisfy Lucien's sense of curiosity.  He likes to dress stylishly in casual looking attire (open neck shirts, sports jackets, and sometimes his favorite fedora hat).
Personality wise, Lucien loves to write and always has a pen on him... in fact he can be a little irritable if he has to go without one.  He also likes to watch groups of people and analyze their interactions.  His hobbies change from decade to decade, as he updates his leisure activities or just grows tired of the same old sports/interests.  Despite his 'devil may care' attitude, Lucien is smart when it comes to etiquette and politics.  He might be a little flamboyant or edgy... but he doesn't want to be treated like a rebel.

In life, Lucien was an unpublished playwright who was shunned by his peers for scandalous writings (black comedies, erotic stories, political satire, etc).  His sire thought Lucien had good taste (ie: ahead of his time) and was impressed with the young man's inventive gambits (forging documents, using pseudonyms, etc) to get the plays produced.  Lucien received the embrace in 1902.

After his embrace, Lucien opened a publishing house (with his Sire's support and oversight).  The business was a means of keeping tabs on artists... and separating the wheat from the chaff.  Lucien was allowed to publish the odd piece of work himself, but eventually he found the creative spark had subsided.  Instead he found other avenues of interest to keep himself amused.

During the Second World War, Lucien lost his sire and had to go underground... quite different to the first World War which had hardly troubled him at all.  Lucien turned his publishing house into a propaganda operation, giving support to the French Resistance movement.  Lucien's aid allowed him to influence the movement in small ways.  He used these favors to help colleagues or protect things that were dear to him.

After the war, Lucien took on a childe at the behest of his grandsire (and the clan pushing for more members), although he choose Liana independent of anybody else's suggestions.  There were a number of factors... aesthetics, her amusing work with the starving artists, social skills, etc.  Lucien entered Liana's life as a biographer who wanted her input and hospitality for a night or two.  For Liana's embrace, Lucien wrote a play (laced with Toreador iconography) and had her act it out.  All in all, Lucien left quite an impression upon Liana (which was his aim, to inspire rather than command).

Lucien did his best to teach Liana 'traditional' Toreador values, while encouraging a degree of independence.  Lucien didn't want a needy fledgling, he wanted someone who could go out into the world and make a contribution, somehow.  Lucien introduced Liana to other Toreador in an attempt to foster clan loyalty and appreciation for the clan's culture.

Since releasing Liana from his care, Lucien has continued to dabble in whatever catches his interest... satisfied that he has done his duty to the Clan. He hasn't written a play in decades.
