Carrick is a 24 year old Comms Officer. His talent for language and natural affinity for all things electrical slotted him in his role long before he really knew the choice had already been made. Had he his druthers, he would have been firmly ensconced in the Terran Navy as a military strategist. But that was never going to happen, not deep in Vilani space with Free Traders for family. His "family" was a Consortium put together of his parents, close friends and allies... with a ship and charter.

After the war quieted and armistice was signed, Carrick's family scraped together their part of the capital to buy a large freighter, the Auspice, and its payload, and left the Mirabilis system for Virani space, carrying their merchandise, dreams of exotic places, and visions of riches to satisfy even the most gluttonous of bankers. Three years ago, after the Vilani leveled charges of running contraband against his ship--a transparent veil for asset seizure--the Consortium was left destitute in unfriendly space and the constituent members were left to scrabbling for food and ferry back to Terran space as Free Failures. The drama amongst crew--the back biting and blame--ruined many friendships and close ties.

And the sting of it all hasn't disappeared. When his opportunity to sign on with Kalishnikov P/L presented itself, Carrick didn't waste a moment. He would earn a new ship for his family and bring them back to the stars triumphant--and they would be as successful as they had so long dreamed.

Currently, his parents take on jobs aboard whatever passing freighter or garbage scow will offer them billets--saving each penny they make to put together a new stake.
