CMDR David Gardner

What you see

Gardner stand 6'2 tall and weigh 185 lbs with dark hair and brown eyes. He speak with a slight Estuary English dialect. He is not as fit as he used to be but he is trying to get back into shape which isnt as easy as he had hoped. He walks with a slight limp and struggle with chronic backpains due to the injuries he sustained aboard the UNN Charmois. It is most likely the reason why he at times loo tired.

What you get

Gardner is a likeable if somewhat flirtateous man with a deep soothing voice and a personality that makes people around him relax. He is fond of literature and music yet is completely tone-deaf - a fact he refuse to acknowledge. He also donate most of his income to various charities which actually bothers him but he cant seem to stop himself from doing it. He is staunchly loyal to his close friends - one from the UNN Charmois, two from Navy Academy and two back from his university days. He is proud of being in the Navy and he feels that if he fails in his duty he will have failed the Navy that gave him a second chance. So he works hard - perhaps too hard - to prove that it was not a mistake to take him back.

Background

David Gardner was born to British nationals on the mining colony of Midway in 2142. Both parents (Simon and Jennifer) worked as mid-level government employees. The Third Interstellar War was the main event that defined his childhood and by the time it ended he was an adolescent. Like most of his generation the experience of coming so close to total defeat to the Vilani Empire fueled his dreams of entering the Terran Armed Forces.

As soon as possible he entered the Terran Navy where he showed potential and was selected for Officer training. He did well at the Naval Academy and showed enough potential for some higher up in command to take notice of the young man. His first assignment was aboard the Escort Vessel UNN Charmois where he had served for 8 months when it was attacked by suspected Vilani vessels in the Sirius System. Outnumbered and outgunned and - for some reason - not in Terran-controlled space the UNN Charmois was lost with only a few survivors escaping on life boats. Gardner was one of those survivors but he had suffered serious injuries effectively ending his navy career.

Five spinal-surgeries later and after 8 months of physiotherapy Gardner was able to walk again but failed to be allowed to rejoin active service. Instead he was assigned to the Reserves and without a clear direction in his life he entered University. Here he studied the Vilani culture and history and became more and more fascinated by them. He even managed to get two books published - one a biography about the Vilani admiral Kadur Erasharshi and the other a study of Vilani naval tactics during the Third Interstellar War. For a while he gave lectures on the Naval Academy on Luna but even though an academic career was an obvious choice for Gardner he never felt comfortable in the world of academics. So when the day came when the Terran Navy approached him and offered to reinstate him to active duty he was thrilled. He was send to Intelligence School and despite his physical injuries he was able to keep up with the others in his class.

And now his first assignment as Intelligence Officer is the Jean Bart.
