Hugh Montdidier

THE BASICS

Name: Hugh Montdidier

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Gender: Male

Age: 24

Hair: Blonde

Eyes: Light blue

Distinguishing Marks: No specific marks nor major scars.  He is not without blemish of course; an array of finer, minor scars can be found across his chest, back, and arms, typical of a life spent fighting in one form or another.  In addition, his preferred hairstyle is rather distinctive.

General Appearance:

Hugh has a warrior's build, pure and simple.  Near an even six feet tall, he is broad-shouldered and well-muscled, but not to an excessive amount.  His muscles are built for efficiency, for endurance, and for bursts of strength... the kind of body a warrior who fights and trains often earns after years of work.  Hugh prefers to wear simpler, low-drag clothing as opposed to the fancier types most noblemen prefer.  Leathers, furs, and during the warmer months, he will often go sleeveless when no armor is required.  Hugh can always be seen with a sword or handaxe on his hip, and no fewer than two small knives, usually more, sheathed in a bandolier across his chest.  When he's prepared for battle - or ready to head to a bar where he might do a few tricks for fun and entertainment - he wears six identical knives, well balanced for throwing.

HISTORY

Personality:  Hugh is, by definition, a rather gregarious fellow.  He is rarely without a smile, and has little trouble getting along with most.  In truth, there arew few people he won't deal well with - that number is limited to those he deems not worthy of respect.  That list isn't long at the moment, but it does grow consistently.  Respect and honor are important qualities to Hugh, although their definition with Hugh can differ from the tradition.  Suffice to say that every person is judged equally, and his opinion is made quickly.

Unlike many of his 'type', Hugh doesn't consider himself a ladies' man.  That's not to say he hasn't lain with women in the past and recently, of course - he simply does not go out of his way to add as many notches to the bedpost as most.  Instead, Hugh has another preferred method of competing with his fellow men: dueling, and swordplay.  Hugh is incredibly competitive in this area, and more or less, it drives his lifestyle.

Sexual Preferences: Heterosexual

Minor House: House Montdidier

About Your character:  Hugh is the sole living male heir to the Montdidier family title.  His father, Philip Montdidier, has often expressed a degree of frustration at this, though he would never say he regrets that Hugh was the only one of his sons to survive a sickness that took the household about a decade back, when Hugh was on the cusp of adulthood.  This sickness proved to be the death of Hugh's two older brothers and one sister, as well as his mother.  This left only Hugh, and two other sisters - Alicia and Therese - for which the family as fortunate.  As you might expect, few could truly call the Montdidier seed weak.

Much to his father's chagrin however, Hugh is much more interested in dueling and pursuing the martial aspects of his life than performing his duties as heir of the house.  Instead of forging alliances, diplomacy with rival houses, and attending formal affairs at the Noble houses, Hugh can often be found training with a new weapon, or dueling a new opponent.  Rarely does he fight to the death, though since he began in earnest, he hasn't lost a duel.  Hugh has attended a few balls, although at every one - without fail - he has challenged one or more noblemen to duels.  These situations have both added to Hugh's list of men he does not respect, as well as his list of defeated opponents.

The former list is the main reason he prefers to keep far away from the court.  In Hugh's admittedly limited experience with the court, a considerably large portion of nobles are dishonorable, manipulative, and vile human beings.  Philip quickly learned it wasn't worth the trouble sending Hugh to court, thus he focused on another matter: finding Hugh a wife.  if he could not fashion a proper heir out of the boy, at least he might be able to forge a proper alliance with another house.

This didn't quite go as planned... Hugh was certainly popular with women, although nothing ever seemed to last when it was set up.  True, Philip could have simply ordered it, but none of the women he'd managed to set Hugh up with could tolerate his competitive nature, his drive to be the best swordsman around.  Perhaps it was simply bad luck too, then, that none of the women that could have been his wife were women he considered honorable or respectful.  'Witch' was thrown about a lot in those days.

Now though, Philip has gambled on one final attempt: a call by the King himself to send all available heirs and eligible men and women to Rosemont Monestary.  Perhaps there, on his own terms and time, Hugh might find a wife, and an alliance for the family.

House Montdidier is located in the West, across the Trent River.  Known for the Harvest, and it's rather famous spiced Ale.  During each Harvest season a tournament is held to celebrate the uncorking of the current year's vintage, and each new batch of ale is different from the last - each is unique, with old flavors recycled only with a variation in place.

Hugh has two sisters still, one elder, one younger (Alicia) and one older (Therese).  Alicia, the youngest, was struck hard by the sickness that rocked the family, her blonde hair turning bleached, almost white, and her skin pale even after recovery.  She is weak these days, but vibrant as ever and always in good cheer.
