New York City was the first major metropolitan city to establish a unit for investigating and dealing with phenomena unleashed by the pulse.

The Preternatural Investigations Division - of Para unit as it is known almost city wide - is made up of veteran detectives and promising, up-and-coming rookies.

Captain Vince Alvarez
• Salt and Pepper hair, dark brown eyes, buff and well built man in his mid to late forties.
• Married with two kids.
• Ex-Military (Army), former SWAT captain - assigned to head up the unit by the Mayor and Commissioner.

Lieutenant Amanda Hoskins
• Late 30s, pixie-cut brown hair, brown eyes - button nose.  Considered 'Pretty', just no one in the unit with the stones to say it.
• Bit of a bad ass.  Former hand-to-hand trainer on Alvarez's SWAT unit.
• Hand-picked by Alzarez to be his second.

Tiffany 'Rook' Jacobson
• Blond - bright eyed, bushy tailed, innocent face - exited to be a cop.
• The pulse was her 6 month anniversary on the job.
• Tough, likes to work out.
• Youngest member of the squad.
• Faced down an Inspired car jacking the day after the pulse - putting the perp down while keeping her injured partner and a civilian safe.
