Pendragon: Exile Sons

Exile Sons is a play-by-post campaign for the revised fifth edition of King Arthur Pendragon. Events in-game shall largely conform to those outlined in the Great Pendragon Campaign. Character creation will be done using the Book Of Knights And Ladies and a set of expanded Family History Tables. Further supplementary rules and background materials may also be used. Players shall each create a major character, generally a knight or lady, and may further opt to create one or more minor characters as needed.

The central theme is displacement from one's ancestral home. Many of the great knights from canon are or have been exiles: Ambrosius and Uther, Lancelot and his cousins, Astlabor and his three sons, Sirs Balin and Tristram, etc. The reasons for exile are many and varied: one's family might have been forced out by war or invasion, banished for unpopular politics, fled prosecution for crimes real or imagined, and so forth. This theme will be reinforced throughout the campaign as each player-knight faces difficult times and even more difficult choices, from the harsh realities of Uther's court, through the chaos of Anarchy, and beyond to the glorious rise and eventual tragic downfall of Arthur.

The core tenet of exile manifests, in character creation, by means of a simple conceit: all the player-knights' families originally came from somewhere outside Salisbury. You will each be required to consider a possible homeland and reason for your families' exile, then elaborate on these details as you navigate through the Family History process. Your characters' families may conceivably have been exiled one or more generations ago, or possibly within your characters' own lifetimes. The precise details will be unique.
