Faire

Name: Faire Agarwen
Title: Lady, of the Sapphire Court (former)
Eyes: Blue
Race: Snow Elf
Preferred Deity: Sarynth, the Star Weaver
Class: Myrmidon
Alignment: Lawful Good
Homeland: Leyland, the Northern Sanctum

Appearance: Lady Agarwen is akin to the delicate Euphorbia marginata: lovely, but dangerous. Intent on garnering the proper respect for her skills, Faire often wears her sword at her side—woe to those that would temp its sting. She clothes herself in a sort of hodge-podge (though fashionable) assortment of sapphire armaments and silken cloth, reflecting her former status as a lady of her homeland’s court and her current predicament. Unsurprisingly, it was this very “tomboyish” nature that got Faire into trouble in the first place. One might say “unsurprisingly” because her appearance has yet to reflect any of the criticism that expelled her from the court; she prefers boots to heels, skirts to dresses, and a sword and shield to a golden spoon. She favors the colors of her homeland, returning to pale blues and whites—accentuating her beautiful, snow-white hair, grown long over a period of years. She has recently taken to braiding it, for Faire has discovered that adventure has a way of taking an unforgiving toll on one’s hair, and combing through four feet of the stuff is quite a task when you don’t have a servant on hand to assist you.

Personality: Undeniably charismatic, Lady Agarwen is a woman of considerable charm and allure. Perhaps what draws people to her most is the strength of her spirit, overflowing from her demeanor with every grin. A fearsome and determined woman, Faire is rather confident in her own abilities and trusts herself to a fault. She bears utter resentment for upper class society and its acceptance of inequality, and has taken up the cause of the poor and defenseless as her own. Less than cool-headed, Faire’s temper has gotten the best of her on more than one occasion; she finds it hard to hold her tongue in matters of morality or politics. Labeled a “tomboy” by her peers, she refuses to accept traditional gender roles, pursuing martial interests commonly labeled as masculine. However, in addition to her proclivity for swordplay, Faire also enjoys botany and herbalism as a hobby—for both rationally symbolic and therapeutically cathartic reasons. She is an idealist at heart, bearing scorn for pragmatic ideas with her characteristic stubbornness and unwillingness to compromise.

History: Faire Agarwen was born to Elbareth and Mistale Agarwen, nobles of the Sapphire Court in the kingdom of Leyland. She was the middle born of three children: an older brother by the name of Miirphys, and a younger sister by the name of Maelyrra. Her father, Elbareth, is a magitech engineer within the Northern Sanctum, whose primary scope of research delves into crystaletics. Sir Elbareth is credited with the development of much of the early crystaletic technology that allows for the convenient absorption, storage, and distribution of arcane energy derived from the ley lines. Miirphys, as the firstborn of the family, has largely grown up in his father’s shadow, spending much of his life learning the family business. Faire’s mother, Mistale, was a renowned Knight of the Northern Sanctum, though she wished nothing of the sort for her daughters. Having fought various skirmishes with Triumverate forces, Mistale had grown weary of war and the horrors it brought; her desire was that her children live lives of peace, never to know the inhumanity of strife. While Maelyrra engaged with liberal pursuits, particularly within the study of history, Faire desired nothing more than to emulate her mother. Doomed by motion sickness, a martial career as a Knight seemed mere fantasy than reality. Furthermore, as nobles of the Court, it was unseemly for a young woman to take such an uncanny interest in militaristic matters, which alienated Faire from many of her peers. Still, she enjoyed the herbalist lectures from her private tutor, and found the time to pursue swordplay in relative secrecy. Dinnertime conversations were sometimes spoiled by arguments between Faire and her mother, for the young girl couldn’t possibly understand why her mother wouldn’t want her to grow up to be just like her. At last, an answer came in the worst form possible: Mistale, the Cobalt Faithful, was struck down in battle, and returned to her homeland in a casket. The broken family mourned, though none took the news harder than Faire. Consumed by guilt and grief, Faire grew withdrawn in the ensuing weeks that followed. All of her angst culminated in a very public argument with a fellow member of the Court, a senior to the young Faire by the name of Osbeth the Faithful, a Knight of the Northern Sanctum. In revenge for the embarrassment, Osbeth saw to the expulsion of Faire from the Court for “conduct unbefitting a member of the royal entourage,” stripping her of her social status. Although most of her family still embraced her, save her brother Miirphys, whom had warned her against the consequences of her temper, Faire knew that her family’s name would only suffer further tarnishing if she stayed within Leyland. Thus begins her adventure—far, far from home.
