Octavia Tatum is a middle-tiered tecnical expert within the Turian Hierarchy. Her father was the chief architect of the Tantalus Drive system, and previously served aboard the SSV Normandy. He was dismissed over an argument with the acting CO, Elli Zander, who pushed the limits of the stealth system so far that General Tatum organized a mutiny to protect the safety of the crew. That incident led to the Normandy being handed over to Captain David Anderson.
Commander Tatum is a technical woman through and through, with an analytical mind, and no great desire to 'fraternize', particularly with non-Turians. She is pretty for a Turian, and has white facial tatoos that mark her as belonging to the Thracia colony.
