Ianna

Full Name: Ianna (true name Ianthine, given only to the people she trusts blindly, as names carry power among the faeries)
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Hetero
Occupation: Garden Faerie
Species: Faerie
Languages: Common, Elven

Powers: ability to manipulate plants to a small amount, such as restoring a wilted flower and helping it grow. Knowledgeable about herbs and various potions and salves you can make from them.

Appearance: Ianna is, as all faeries are, very small, thin and fragile looking. She has a nice oval face, smooth pale skin and gentle, doe-like dark eyes. Her hair falls in long curls of brown, embroidered with streaks of coppery-red here and there, with the tips of her pointed ears poking through it. She has a set of transparent butterfly wings on her back, which reflect light and break it into various colors, much like the wings of a dragonfly do.

Height: 5" (about the size of an average human palm)
Weight: 3.3 oz
Eye Color: dark brown
Hair color: brown with streaks of copper
Hair Style: curls, usually worn loose or tied at the nape of her neck with string
Complexion: fair
Body shape: lithe
Clothing: usually wears clothes of light and airy materials, which do not weigh her down

Personality: though primarily gentle and caring, she can be fiercely loyal and relentless in things she believes she does for a good cause. There are things that she does not understand (mainly concerning humans and their strange customs) but she is never quick to judge and sometimes is able to offer rather wise sounding advice.

Merits: kind, compassionate, loyal, thoughtful
Flaws: sometimes too stubborn for her own good, has difficulty with speaking to strangers, especially humans,  as she is aware that not everyone is like her human friend and mistrusts them.

History: Ianna was barely a few summers old when she met her first human. Initially terrified, the shock of being face to face with a giant her parents warned her against froze her mid-air and she began to fall.
She would have met her end as soon as she hit the ground, but instead landed into the cupped hands of a young human boy. Realizing that the human boy was simply looking at her, instead of crushing her to bits or something equally terrifying, the little faerie girl slowly let go of her fear and studied him with the same curiosity.

The innocent children that they were, they spent the entire afternoon at play. A few weeks later, they met again, and again and continued to do so throughout the years, all the while taking care to meet in secret, away from the prying eyes of both the humans and the faerie folk alike.
As they both changed and grew, Ianna came to realize that he had become so much more than the little boy she had first met, and she knew that if her parents found out about their regular meetings, they would be furious. But despite of her fear, she had somehow never found the strength to abandon him and turn to her own kind.

She spends her days hard at work in her studies, as it turns out what being a Garden faerie is a lot more than just making flowers grow. People who share her magical affinity are expected to be the resident herbalist and gardeners, basically being responsible for the whole community's well being, by making sure there's always enough food in the Valley they live in, while it's impossible going outside to gather it, during the few harsh and to faeries, deadly winter months.

Ianna is a bit of an oddball, when it came to her inherited power, as she did not pull it from either of her parents, but rather from her maternal grandmother. Faerie magic as such, was vastly different than what other races used. Where most humanoid races had to learn formulas and incantations and could choose which field of magic they would specialize in, Faeries were born with theirs and it always involved some aspect of nature.
Ianna didn't choose to be a Garden Faerie. If she did, she would rather be a River Faerie or even a Fauna Faerie (like her father was and talking to animals had always fascinated her).
Alas, at her first Trial, where magical affinity was determined, when the time came to ask a hedgehog to tell her where it lived, she found the animal just stare at her, not understanding a word. And the more frustrated she got, the more gasps from the gathered crowd could be heard. When she looked around, she found a large patch of bluebell flowers spreading from under her... out of season.

Thus it was discovered that a Garden Faerie she was and would stay for the rest of her life. She thought she would die of embarrassment for getting such a weak "gift", until her parents got her a tutor. Now, when she learned how to properly use it, she had no regrets at all. In fact, she was glad for it.
