Kerrick comes from a line of Dwarves living in Haksferd, mostly who earned a living as grave diggers. His father was one exception, chosing to be an assistant to the local doctor. However, Kerrick is very close to his grandfather, the current gravedigger. Kerrick spent many hours helping out his grandfather after school, but also learning about medicine from what his father could teach him, little as it was. Kerrick's best friend is Gren, and Kerrick keeps a spare room made up just for him in his house. Kerrick is unsure what he wants to do with his life, but he and Gren often talk about having adventures together.
