Stars Without Number revised - Sector Tarterus Tau
Broad overview
Stars Without Number is a Science Fiction OSR RPG.
It gets some of its inspiration from the Traveler Science Fiction RPG, but this has a OSR (Original Dungeons and Dragons) type mechanic.
This means Stars without Number (I will refer as SWN from here) has level progression and and Experience system for progression.
It used Armor class for difficulty to hit someone and you use a d20 for combat resolution.

Rules set
This is the REVISED version of SWN, which has been updated, streamlined and additional content over the original version.
You can download the FREE verion of SWN revised here:
It has all the content you need to PLAY SWN revised.

The setting for SWN is a sort of Post collapse of a Galactic Empire called the "Terran Mandate".
Here's a snippett taken from "The history of space" section of the SWN rules"

Stars Without Number is a far future age in which the sprawling, glorious domain of human space has been reduced to a scattering of squabbling powers and long-lost worlds. The ancient domain of humanity has shrunken with the collapse
of the psi-powered
Jump Gates that once stitched the remote regions of the frontier into the teeming worlds of the human core.
Now, almost six hundred years after the catastrophe that ended the Golden Age of Man, new hope rises from the wreckage of a fallen empire.

Essentially, An event called "The scream" caused all Psychics to go mad. The Terran mandate depended on Psychics to control Jump gates that kept the Terran Mandate functional.
Everything collapsed. 100s of years later, civilization is trying to claw itself back together via using old "Spike drive technology to travel, which is far slower and less efficient than Jump gates.
