Flesh of Angels
“The dead have highways, running through the wasteland behind our lives, bearing an endless traffic of departed souls. They can be heard in the broken places of our world, through cracks made by acts of cruelty, violence, and depravity. They have sign posts, these highways, and crossroads and intersections. And it is at these intersections where the dead mingle, and sometimes spill over into our world.” - Book of Blood

Reality is a lie. Mankind is trapped in an illusion. We do not see the great citadels of Metropolis towering over our highest skyscrapers. We do not hear the screams coming from the cellar where hidden stairs lead us to Inferno. We do not smell the blood and burnt flesh from those sacrificed to gods long since forgotten. But, some of us see glimpses beyond the veil. We have this strange feeling that something is not right - the ramblings of a madman in the subway seem to carry a hidden message, and our reclusive neighbor does not appear to be completely human. By slowly discovering the truth about our prison, our captors and our hidden pasts, we can finally awaken from our induced sleep and take control of our destiny.

Against the backdrop of societal decay and urban blight, heroes are in short supply. Faustian bargains promise forbidden pleasures and dark miracles, weaving a tantalizing lure, drawing in the desperate, destitute, and disenfranchised who dwell in the wreckage of institutionalized greed and an uncaring society. As the blindfold slips, and ignorant slumber gives way to burgeoning awareness, we hear our footsteps echo upon ancient roads paved long before the dawn of mankind’s first civilization. Who amongst these fractured few is brave enough to face divine revelation and dare shatter the strongest and most insidious chain of all - their own inner darkness?
