PROFILE

Appearance

Evie is a tall, leggy Blasian woman of Indian decent. Her hair is wild and curly. She has two beauty marks on the left side of her face. One under her eye, the other on her cheek. Contrasted against sepia brown skin and hair, her eyes are her most striking feature, though she doesn't like to make eyecontact. On the rare occasion, your eyes do meet, she doesn't look at you. She looks through you.

After the embrace, Evie's DNA was permanently altered by the Vastra, an aquatic, serpentine creature (Hydrophiinae and Gymnothorax are both referenced throughout her research). She manages to hide these features with varying degrees of success and discomfort. When given the chance, she'll always let her monster side hang all out. In this state, her hair is greenish and iridescent scales cover her body. Her hands and feet are both webbed. She possesses gills capable of filtering water and other aquatic embellishments run up and down her limbs. Whatever she has fused with is a predator. Her rare smiles are filled with sharp teeth, and her slender fingers are tipped with talons.

Becoming the Vastra has granted Evie the ability to summon/grow(?) an armor that covers her body. The knight inspires both awe and fear in those who face it. The plates are dark and covered in spikes. There is no helmet, but the head of a creature with a long maw and many eyes. Considering this fashion freak fest destroys any clothing she wears, she's stopped giving a shit. Even at her best dressed, the biologist always looks a little feral. Doesn't help she generally lives like a degenerate college student.

Personality

Evie is difficult to read. Her deadpan expressions and intense demeanor make her great at poker and terrible at making friends. Her distrust of authority figures is likely attributed to her family’s involvement in [REDACTED]. She tends to isolate herself and focus on her special interests, like researching animals and uh... horrible monsters. She's what you would call an "action scientist", the kind who likes to get her hands dirty, and prefers the outdoors to a stuffy lab. As expected, most of her fellow researchers tend to eye her like they're afraid to get a swirly. Even with her general lack of social finesse, she's only resorted to the method a couple of times. On top of being generally off-putting and kind of dense, she is notoriously a willful, insubordinate little shit.

Despite Evie's reputation as an unflappable, brick wall, she is not a cold person. On the contrary, she harbors a passionate fire that often overwhelms her. Her life has been a struggle to process and express her own feelings, often with explosive results. Few have the patience (or balls) to wiggle their way into her inner circle, but those who do find a tender woman who's somehow still functioning as the hottest of messes. Guess it's true what they say, you can't have both. Either you're a badass who fights werewolves with your bare hands, or you're a stable adult who doesn't eat raw lettuce over the sink in your underwear for dinner.

Origin

Evie's parents were the kind of people who feared what they didn't understand. Their fear caused them to become involved in [REDACTED]. Evie left them at fifteen. Years later, Evie became a biologist, specializing in genetics and evolution. Her team was performing diving tests off the coast of the United States Virgin Islands when they discovered an ecological anomaly. Foolishly, the team descended into the bowels of the strange place. Inside were hundreds upon thousands of petrified eggs, some of which were already broken. It soon became apparent that the scientists were not alone.

One by one, colleges were picked off by a monster that lurked in the ruins. Mortally wounded, Evie bled out on the egg sample she collected and was infected by the symbiote dormant inside. Hours later, Evie’s body was discovered by fishermen and she was rushed to a hospital. But the biologist's ordeal had only just begun. Over time, Evie underwent the Embrace, where she and the symbiote became one in body, but not in soul. Over the next decades, Evie dedicated herself to studying and cultivating a partnership with the symbiote, Sookie. While Evie has turned her talents towards studying other supernatural beings, the Vastra is still her most enticing mystery.

OCCULT MOVES

From the Black Lagoon
You have become a semi-aquatic creature, as at home in the water as you are on land. When submerged in water, roll with Power. On a 7-9 success choose 1, and on a 10+ choose 2.
✦ Heal +1 Harm while tending to your wounds.
✦ Gain the condition "Mesmerizing" so long as you're wet.
✦ Someone spies you. Give them a condition.
✦ Carry +1 forward to your next physical roll.

Skin of Leviathan
You can coat yourself in a suit of armor built of hard scales and spikes. When you wear your armor, roll Resistance. On a 7-9 success, hold 1 and on a 10+ hold 2.
✦ When you take Harm, inflict Harm.
✦ Ignore up to 2 Harm (one attack).
    ✦ Add +1 Harm.
✦ Pull a trident from your body. You may have only one that lasts 24 hours. You lose it, it's gone until then.

CURSE

Whispers from the Deep
Your body has embraced, but not your soul. The consciousness of the symbiote still slithers inside you. Two weirdos in one body get complicated. When you fail an occult roll, choose 1 of the following.
✦ Sooki or Evie intervenes at the worst possible moment.
✦ You can't control carnivorous urges. Binge and purge.
✦ You transform against your will.
✦ Sooki or Evie spill the other's secret.
