Jacques Mortisen

Doctor Mortisen, better known as Jackie to just about everyone, is thirty one years old. He's just 5'6" tall, with a very lithe, slender build. He's not the least bit imposing of stature or visage, nor is he the least bit imposing in any other way. Shy and soft-spoken, the only time he shows himself to be authoritative and striking is in the midst of work. He graduated top of his class from Harvard Med on a full scholarship, and immediately left after his residency for two years with Médecins Sans Frontières. Having created a thoroughly impressive C.V., he then spurned a number of lucrative offers to take a meagre pay and a backbreaking workload in a free clinic in Chicago.

He grew up leading an itinerant lifestyle with a young single mother. She suffered a great deal of trauma and was made to endure all the more in her attempts to escape her pain. He was fortunate enough to get the help of decent people in the wake of her violent death at a young age, for her and for him. Rather than looking to escape the pain and the poverty he had known as a child, he has devoted himself to helping out the people ground beneath society's heels.

There's a darkness inside of him, there has been for a very long time, and recently some people were foolish enough to break the lock on the cage.

The few waking hours he has that aren't spent providing his medical training for barely minimum wage are put towards repairing home appliances, tending to family pets and providing tutoring for adolescents and children. Jackie's the sort of hero that people only notice during a plague. Given all that, there's no sane or sensible reason to connect him to the thing that's acquired the name of Jack the Ripper.

The fact that Jackie would be hard pressed to open a pickle jar, let alone eviscerate, mutilate, and do all manner of other horrible things ending in -ate to hardened criminals also insulates him from any suspicion. Jack is a towering figure, sleek and savage, darkness incarnate with power and poise. The monster has a sense of justice, however harsh, and Chicago has no shortage of people worthy of its most thorough attention. Jack's got quite a sense of humour and an artistic flair, though his medium is often visceral in the literal sense.
