Katherine was raised in a fairly progressive Jewish home outside of Berlin. The war was horrible when she was a child and the depression after was even worse. However, her parents survived through and started making more money. Kitty was able to get into a university as there was a bit more progressive push. She was fascinated with new sciences and technology.

Once she got out of university she started to work as an assistant at the morgue, learning much about forensics that would become commonplace were still being developmental or completely ignored. However, she found a few people interested and learned what she could while also currying favor with whomever she could above her to get the appropriate letters written for her eventual goal. That goal was going back for an advanced degree. She was the only woman in the program but that hardly mattered. However, toward the end of her schooling things began changing in her home. Her parents moved to family in Belarus, her maternal grandparents were still there. But she wanted to finish school. In only a handful of months things started to get worse and…

Two days after her 26th birthday, three months after she’d fought to be granted her masters degree with a focus on modern forensic science and criminology, Kat sat across from the man who would hopefully just rubber stamp this process. Of course, that wasn’t happening. With an influx of people like herself moving from Germany more eyes were on everyone. Especially with a single woman showing up in New York.

Thankfully, she had education and enough money to get set up, just barely. So, she was able to get through the paperwork and finally that stamp.

Over the next few months she found a place to hang her shingle, a studio apartment above the office. Since then there have been a few cases, mostly getting evidence of cheating. It was enough to cover the rent and food but that was it. Hopefully something bigger will come in soon but at least ends are meeting for the time being. It would be nice to get enough together to bring her parents over.
