Father Nally

Father Immanuelle Nally is a 55 year old Priest who has served the community of Shaddingham for the last twenty years.  His parish, that of St Gertrude the Great has been his home for much of his adult life.

Father Nally was born in the Welsh border town of Wrexham and found his calling early in life.  He attended St Mary's College in Aberystwyth and in his early 20's was ordained as a Catholic priest.

His first parish was in Liverpool, at St Anthony of Egpyt on 'Scottie' Road.  The area a hub of working class life, close to the docks and dominated by the large Irish Catholic community that emigrated, but having arrived in England never veered a stone's throw away from the Irish Sea.  If one could taste the salt in the air, then they were still close to home.

With his light Welsh tones, his voice is a source of comfort to his flock, but it is his ears that he helps people.  For the power to listen is the kindest gift the Lord gave him.

He thought he had seen all the problems in the world in Liverpool but the woes of Shaddingham were something else.  Arriving in the mid 1970s Father Nally has seen children grow up, have children themselves and now tend to their christenings, weddings and funerals.  He has seen love, happiness, joy and despair.

He sees his role as a pastoral one, whether at the confessional or over coffee at the refectory.  He has always been an ear for troubles and crises of faith from the flock, intervening with a friendly word or a home visit he is a symbol of solidity and kindness in the area.
