Background: Everly was born in 1910, to a middling-class family. She had a brother, Andrew, who was killed in the Great War, and she and her family lived worry-free, even getting their own business in the Roaring Twenties, a department store.

However, when the Great Depression hit, sales began going down, and Everly had to find work, so she signed up to a movie studio and began working as an actress.
