Varca is a Vespexer, a member of Clan H'Wanyeen, one of the Survivor tribes who eke out a basic living on the blasted surface of Drinax.  Two hundred years ago, the Aslan burned my world and condemned my ancestors to a living hell.  Now -- after the Re-Contact between the Vespexers, on the surface, and the "Palacers", up on the Floating Palace -- the King of Drinax may, once again, claim us as his subjects, but the Vespexers kneel to no-one.
     Varca is tall and trim, as many folks born on worlds with less than Half-a-Gravity tend to be (very few adult Vespexers are under 5-feet tall).  He keeps himself clean-shaven, and wears his hair close-copped, so as not to interfere with the wearing of the helmet that's part of his Hazard Suit -- the protective clothing/armor that all Vespexers wear, to avoid exposure to any of the dozens of toxins, contaminants, biologicals, and radiations that pollute the surface of Drinax.  The fear of "contamination" has turned into a cultural obsession, and Vespexers wear their Hazard Suits almost 24/7 -- even amoung friends and family.
     Despite the prevalent sources of contamination to be found all across the Wastelands of Drinax, the Vespexer people have managed to avoid any significant damage/alteration to their Human genome.  However, this does not mean that, as a People, this hellish environment has not left its mark on them.  All Vespexers are born with a bacterial infection which turns their sclera -- the part of their eyeballs that's normally colored white -- a deep crimson color.  This bacterial infection is the result of the early Survivors exposure to an Aslan Bio-Weapon -- a terror weapon originally designed to "melt" the eyes of its victims but, having been created for use against rival Aslan opponents, it had a slightly different effect against Humans.  Those Drinaxi Humans who survived exposure to the bio weapon -- which had been dispersed liberally across the planet -- developed a hard-to-cure bacterial infection in their eyes, which produced the color change.  This infection is passed on to the following generations, at birth, but is otherwise non-contagious.
     Varca's face just seems to naturally settle into a persistent scowl, and his voice has a slight "gravelly" quality, which he claims is the result of a childhood accidental exposure to some "bad air".  Varca constantly presents himself as a "Tough Guy" (which his Light-Worlder physiology isn't always able to back-up).
