Cassiopeia Clark

Name: Cassiopeia Clark
Nickname: Pia
Age: 21
Year: 1st
Discipline: Physical.
Specialty: TBD.

Physical Description: The in-between sun-kissed tones of Pia's brown hair and vibrant blue eyes make for a striking combination. Her supple figure stands at 5'6" and is kept curvaceously defined from daily running and regular yoga.  When she isn't in workout clothes and running shoes, Pia's taste varies from classically feminine to casually comfortable.

Personality: Cassiopeia has always made friends easily and her gregarious nature could never be mistaken for shy. She's a positive woman with a bright and pretty smile and lively disposition. She's likable, warm, kind-hearted and has a level of empathy which would lend an ear to anyone if needed. However she's no pushover and has no problem speaking up when warranted.

She tends to think herself lucky with a live in the moment attitude. Her lack of impulse control can be justifiably worrisome to those around her, coming across as overly confident and nigh on reckless at times. When in truth, Pia is simply the epitome of optimism. She doesn't believe in mistakes, only in life experiences and regrets are for not having tried at all. She's a fun person to have in a game of Truth or Dare.

Personal Goals: To try everything at least once, sometimes twice to make sure.

History: Pia grew up with two loving Parents and a tribe of siblings. They split their time between the Cornish coast, England and Byron Bay, Australia. Her Parents believed in allowing their children the freedom to evolve and make their own decisions, which seemed to create a perfect harmony within the Family. Pia had no interest in academics, she never studied or completed homework on time and was regarded an underachiever by most of her Teachers. However when it came to exams, she always seemed to claw it back and gained high grades without any study, despite having to attend different schools much of the year.

Every spare moment was spent on the beach either surfing, swimming or partying with her friends.  She left school at sixteen with excellent qualifications and no interest in attending college. Between helping out in her Father's surf shops and teaching yoga classes, she had everything she needed in life.

One early morning surf with her Father shook her world to the core. He thought she'd wiped out but when Pia didn't resurface, he knew something was wrong. He found Pia under the waves and took her to shore. A fog of incredible pain and nausea settled over her and Pia could barely remember the trip to the hospital. What was thought to have been a surfing accident materialized in to something totally unrelated. Pia was given an MRI and the scan revealed a subarachnoid hemorrhage. An arterial rupture had caused severe bleeding on the brain.

Emergency surgery followed and the Doctors were ominously frank. A third of SAH Patients died after the first episode and some recovered with disabilities. Pia was one of the lucky ones but second episodes commonly followed and were often fatal. They assured her there was nothing she could have done to avoid it. It was considered just one of those things. Her brain was a ticking time bomb whatever her lifestyle.

Pia was determined to live her life to the fullest. If she was going to leave this world, then she was going out with a bang. There was nothing she wouldn't do. she had zero fear, except for one thing: Pia had developed an irrational fear of the water. She longed to surf again but every attempt to get back in the ocean ended in a hyperventilating grip of anxiety which she couldn't control. To compensate, she intended to travel and searched for ways to satisfy her adrenaline fix elsewhere.  Writing an almost never ending bucket list of activities, some of which would make even the most hardened of thrill seekers blanch, Pia didn't care. She was intent on making every single second of her life count.

Her Family's normal care-free attitude turned to worry.  Eventually, for their sake Pia agreed to Therapy. The expensive sessions revealed what she already knew. Pia associated the Ocean with her SHA she'd developed PTSD and impulsive behavior as a result of losing the one thing she enjoyed the most. She was searching for that thrill in other avenues. The Therapist gave her a decision diary, she never used it and stopped going after three sessions, assuring her Family she was perfectly fine and had always been a little impulsive anyway.

In a warped way, the aneurysm made her braver. Pia has traveled to some wonderful places in the world and achieved many of the thrilling activities on her bucket list.  Remarkably a spontaneous entrance exam to attend a school of Magic was never one of them.

Brakebills is now the newest and most recent addition to her list. She accepted the highly unusual serendipity with the same enthusiasm as she does everything else. She may have never wanted to go to college, but a college for magic? There wasn't a single chance she was going to turn that down.
