Superboy
Name: Jon Kent
Aliases: Superboy
Age: 20
Physical Description: At 511, Jon isnt particularly tall but is fit and it shows. By look, he would appear to be about 170 pounds, though he actually weighs well over 200, his muscles far denser than the average human, in no small part because he is only half human. However, his weight fluctuates fairly rapidly, growing bulkier and leaner in the course of a day or two, depending on how much sun he's gotten. He also tends to take on a more pallid tone when he's been denied the sun for more than a few days and has grown almost bone white after three or four days under the nuclear clouds. His cheeks were hollow and his skin ashen dry during that experiment, though a few hours above the clouds in the rays of the yellow sun restored him to a healthy glow.
He's found a number of t-shirts with the 'S' symbol of his father, the Kryptonian symbol for hope, as well as a 'costume' he found on a mannequin that he occasionally wears when he goes up to above the clouds to watch the sunrise. Its cape is tattered but it makes him feel a little more hopeful himself though he wouldn't feel confident enough to wear it in front of anyone until he feels he's earned the right.
Should he ever adopt a secret identity, he figures he'll wear frumpy clothes to hide his muscles and glasses, a trick he read about in an old comic book. He's actually tried the look in front of a mirror, the result leaving him looking somewhat ordinary. He hasn't had a reason to adopt that look beyond 'pretend' and probably won't
Biography/History: His mother wouldnt say much about the man who had fathered her child some 20 years ago, except to say he was a good man, and a lonely one. It seemed she had loved him, but he hadnt loved her, at least not in the way she seemed to have wanted or needed. Still, she never said a bad thing about him, even when Jon would complain growing up about how any man who walked away from his responsibilities wasnt much of a man at all.
He was raised by her and his Uncle in a small town in the middle of the country where his uncle worked repairing robots in a vertical farm and his mother worked as an administrative assistant or something like that, Jon hadn't really understood what she did other than it involved lots of 'paperwork' and long nights. He had an ordinary enough life, played football, did well in school and like a lot of other small town kids, dreamed of moving to Metropolis or Gotham or some other big city. He never got that chance, at least not until after The End of the World.
No one knew what had caused it, but on May 29th, the missiles held in silos outside his small town launched. At least, most launched. One simply exploded underground. In an instant, most of the town hed grown up in had sunk into the crater left behind from the blast. Those not killed instantly were burned by radiation, dying within hours, if not minutes. Jon, on the other hand, was affected in a different way. Something about the radiation unlocked dormant genes in his body, both changing him and protecting him.
It took him weeks to dig himself out of the rubble, maybe months. He was strong but not strong enough. The nuclear radiation triggered his dormant genes and those genes kept him alive, but he was a creature of solar energy and it would take him a year before he could fly above the clouds and bask in the sun.
It would take another for him to come to grips with his new and often chaotic powers. Sometimes, his vision would blur and he'd release all of his cosmic energy in a single moment (it would take days to regain enough strength to reach the sky again). Once he sneezed and blew over the shack he'd built on the foundation of his old home. Once he flew into a mountain because the world had turned translucent and he couldn't see it, only the land beyond.
He has a semblance of control now. The world still sounded too loud, even the wind. It still shifted into see-through tones of black and white. But, he learned not to throw himself into the air by accident or burn down what little remained of his new home. He spent another six months getting a finer handle on his eyes and ears, doing what his uncle always said was good for the soul, hard work. He combed through the rubble of his small town, gathering up the remains of everyone he could find. He learned to see through the rock and stone, his new found strength and his x-ray vision allowing him to get to their bodies and bones (those that hadn't left bodies and bones). He buried them all in a graveyard on the edge of town, cutting headstones from granite and etching their names with laser eyes.
It was two and a half years after The End of the World that he was done with the graveyard and began on the next job, feeding the world.
He relocated north, as far from the screams and cries of the world, which were too much for him to bear, building a house for himself in the frozen wastes at the edge of the Arctic. From there he began to gather resources for an underground farm, like the ones his uncle worked in and he'd grown up around. It was still small, still just beginning, but it was a beginning. Still, his own words haunted him. Any man who walked away from his responsibilities wasnt a man at all. He wasnt a man yet, he knew that. Even though he was nearly twenty years old, he was still a boy. A Superboy, maybe, but still, just a boy.
That, he thought, would have to change. He would have to change before he could call himself a man and so he's begun to leave his Fortress of Solitude and go to where the cries for help are the loudest. Usually this takes him to the wastelands but more and more he finds himself on the outskirts of Gotham, listening to its sounds.
Powers: Superboys powers are derived from the solar radiation of the sun. While his Kryptonian DNA was activated by the radiation of a nuclear blast, his body has developed an immunity to surface radiation and fallout and he gets no power from it whatsoever. Instead, he has to fly above the cloud layer on a regular basis to bask in the rays of the sun to both maintain his powers and more notably, to control them. Like a battery, his energy diminishes from use, he grows weaker and less able to control himself. Even if he doesn't use them, his energy still drops and should the sun be denied to him for more than a few days he begins to pale and ashen. As his power wanes, he tends to lose control, like a flashlight beginning to flicker as the batteries go dead. Unfortunately, in his case, hes a flashlight that can level buildings.
Vulnerabilities He hasnt encountered any kryptonite yet, but knows about the green stuff enough to stay away from anything that glows green. He hasnt yet learned about Gold Kryptonite, irradiated green Kryptonite, which presumably exists in as much if not more than the green stuff now and can nullify his Kryptonian powers for an unknown amount of time.
He found a comic that said Superman was vulnerable to magic, but Jon hasnt encountered any himself and doesnt know how it would affect him. He also knows from firsthand experience how dependent he is on exposure to the sun. He also knows he can be distracted by having his senses overloaded and while hes hard to hurt, he can be injured and weakened from severe trauma (most notably in the form of fast healing bruises and sore muscles).
He has no combat training whatsoever and so far, in his limited involvement with anything confrontational, he's relied solely on his near invulnerability, raw strength and superhuman speed.

Unsavory Adjectives:
Lonely Jon spent nearly three years isolated, gaining his powers while obsessively recovering the remains of his friends and neighbors. That time alone broke him some and he feels apart from people. He longs for connection, but at the same time, feels separate. To compensate, he will likely form bonds with people quickly (for good or ill), though it's not entirely clear how that might play out.
Addicted/Dependent While radiation may have triggered his Kryptonian DNA, it also left him with dependence upon Solar Energy. Without it, his physical and mental state deteriorates. Those effects weren't as bad his first few years as his powers were emerging, but now its growing worse. In addition, powering himself in the suns radiation is a euphoric experience that hes beginning to long for. It makes him question why he doesn't simply leave the ground for good, but it also drives him to greater and greater withdraw to make the euphoric process all the stronger.
Fearful - For someone that is nearly invulnerable, incredibly strong and able to not only leap tall buildings but fly above them and level them with his eyes, Jon is remarkably fearful. He's afraid of being alone (see above), he's also afraid of being around people. The first comes from his years in isolation, the latter comes from both the voices and cries of those he hears, but also his fear of his own powers. He spent years without even considering hurting anyone. When his powers would erupt, the worst he would have to do was fix his ceiling or repair a wall. It's different where people are involved. Can he level a building? Yes. But what happens when he does? Can he save someone who is in need? Probably, but can he save everyone? Probably not, so how does he choose? That's too much responsibility for one person, especially one person so young he hasn't even figured out 'who' he is and he worries about what harm he might do before he does.
Overconfident - Jon believes he can't be hurt, at least not in a way that matters. He knows he can be hurt emotionally but he doesn't think he can be hurt physically. Because of that, he's not afraid of anyone or anything other than himself (see above). As a result, he seems to think he can do anything (though he restrains himself since he's not sure he 'should' do anything).

- Solar Energy Absorption Superboy gets his powers from the yellow sun hidden beyond the clouds. Hes able to absorb solar radiation and store it within his cells, making him effectively a giant battery. All of his associated powers come from that battery and diminish as his exposure to the sun wanes. Generally, he can last a few days before he begins to weaken and pale. Shortly thereafter his powers begin to flicker, failing when used or activating on their own. His body doesnt need any other source of energy, though he still gets hungry and thirsty, its more of a psychological need than a physical one.
- Invulnerability While not totally invulnerable to harm, Jon is nearly immune to most maladies and injuries. He can survive extreme temperatures and radioactive exposure as well as small caliber weapons. Larger and more powerful weapons have the ability to hurt him some, but he can quickly heal himself under the rays of the yellow sun.
- Solar Healing While under the nuclear cloud he heals only slightly faster than a normal human being, his body free from infection and other side issues that might slow a pure human down. Under the solar rays that healing speeds up dramatically though a major injury or severe damage might take some time.
- Flight When healthy, Superboy can fly as fast as any high-speed vehicle and almost as fast as The Flash can run. However, his speeds decrease dramatically when weakened and should he be denied the yellow sun for more than a few days hell be lucky if he can even manage to make it above the cloud layer without crashing or falling at least a few times.
- Super Strength Even at his weakest he can carry extreme weights beyond the capacity of any normal human being. At full power his strength is almost unmeasurable. At least, he hasnt bothered trying to measure it.
- Super Speed At his weakest, hes as fast if not faster than peak human capacity, but when fully charged by the sun he really is faster than a speeding bullet
or at least almost
bullets are pretty fast.
- Super Hearing He hasnt yet learned how to focus out all the sounds he hears, making it difficult to pick out sounds from a crowd, but hes working on that. However, he can hear loud sounds, gunshots, screams, and crashes from miles away. Unlike most of his other powers, this one seems to get stronger the weaker he gets. He figures its a matter of focus and control, but its one of the reasons he does his best to stay healthy and not let himself stay out of the sun for too long. Even at his best, he sometimes has trouble filtering out sounds and can be distracted or disoriented. Loud noises are sometimes better as they help him focus, at least for a time.
- Super Vision His vision sometimes gets weird. On occasion, it tends to zoom in like a camera and once or twice its seemed to go microscopic. He was afraid he was going blind when that happened. Like his hearing, his eyes tend to act up when exposed to fallout and ground radiation for too long.
- X-Ray Vision He can see through most objects, except for lead or other particularly dense materials (that would otherwise block X-Rays). He doesnt have fine control of this vision yet and can usually only look at someone like they were going through an X-Ray machine, though once or twice hes managed to hone in and just see past clothes. Like his other senses, when he gets weaker his X-Ray vision tends to turn on all by itself, making it harder for him to operate.
- Heat Vision The most exhausting of his powers is his heat vision. When well fed by solar radiation hes able to release it through his eyes. This takes a lot out of him when he does it, but it can be used to cut through almost anything. Generally speaking, when he uses this power he has to bask in the sun for a longer period of time to feel healthy again. Unfortunately, this is another power which sometimes goes off on its own, especially when emotionally and physically charged.
- Freeze Breath He hasnt really learned how to use this though he knows he can both hold his breath for several hours as well as breathe 'out' hard enough to knock things over and leave a bit of frost, like when opening the door to a freezer (back when he had a freezer door to open). This is one of the hardest powers for him to use and leaves him tired afterward.

Abundant Resources:
- Raw Materials - Between his flight, resistance to radiation and x-ray vision, hes able to scavenge the wasteland for almost any sort of raw materials someone might need.
- Transportation - Hes his own transportation, can carry one other easily and more if they were to get into something like a car or container that he could carry.
- Shelter/Protection from Elements - He has a fortress he can call home if needed, but generally doesnt need shelter except for psychological comfort.
- Food - He doesnt need to eat but can find canned goods and other non-perishables from the wasteland for others, assuming he can find places that arent utterly irradiated. He's also started to build a small hydroponic farm like they'd had in his home town but he's still gathering equipment and carving it out of the permafrost.
- Water - He doesnt need it himself, but with the right equipment like a tanker or fire engine and siphon, his strength, flight, x-ray vision and heat vision he could find deep wells and drain them to bring back to Gotham. If this wasn't so time-consuming and exhausting it might even be deemed abundant.
- Medicine - He doesnt need medicine for himself but can probably find supplies from the wasteland for others, assuming he can find places that arent utterly irradiated or items that are expired.
Deficient Resources:
- Weapons - Hes his own weapon and generally destroys any others he finds.
- Power - He has a backup generator for the fortress, but it only has enough to run the lights for the farm and a few lights in the house.
- Workforce - Hes his own workforce, but can only be in one place at a time and doesnt have anyone else to turn to or rely on (yet).
- Manufacturing Hes able to make some simple things he or others might need by simply bending or shaping metal, however, its time-consuming, crude and nothing that could be done on a large scale.
