Physical description: The Scarecrow has two primary forms that it regularly takes (though one could very easily be mistaken for a myriad of other things). In it's first form the Scarecrow simply appears as a black mist which covers an area of about six feet. It can glide over the ground or fully fly (at which point it seems to me a mobile cloud of smoke instead of simple mist). It's second form is that of an incorporeal, six foot figure, clothed and hooded in flowing black robes that billow and fade like smoke in a breeze. A strong enough light can actually be seen to pass through him. Within the hood is simply more of the same darkness. Though the mind of Samuel Crane remains strong within the Scarecrow, in neither of these forms can he speak.



Age: 28

Skills/Abilities: Samuel Crane was an incredibly brilliant scientist (like many other Cranes) and his intelligence has not been diminished by the loss of his true body, more to the fact he has developed something akin to a hive mind consciousness from the experience tied to his newfound form. The mist that makes up his body now is Fear Toxin, which he was experimenting upon when the bombs fell. Due to the gaseous nature of his body, he can separate parts of himself to use as a weapon: if someone inhales a part of him, he retains the connection to the lost portion and is able to pull from his victim's consciousness the thing that terrifies them most which changes his main form FULLY into that person or thing for a short time. However, at this moment he is only able to utilize this on one person at a time.

Weapons: While he is a psychological weapon in the truest sense, his main form of ACTUAL weapons come from whatever his victim's envision. If someone fears a fire-breathing dragon the most he can breath flames or rip and tear with claws; if someone's greatest fear is simply a mugger who murdered their parents with a gun he'd just be a man with a gun.

Weaknesses: The greatest fear that Samuel Crane now has in his existence as the Scarecrow is anything that can destroy his gaseous form (fire being the most obvious threat though he has discovered that acid rain will disperse him just as easily). Given time he can reform lost parts of his form but he does not know if he could recover should his entire body be destroyed at once. This also proves as a drawback to his ability to transform into people's fears as each time he uses that ability he has to sacrifice a portion of himself to find out the form to take, potentially killing himself if he overuses it. He is also not certain as to whether or not he would die if he were killed while transformed into someone's fear.

Bad Adjectives:

Incorporeal / Mute: Scarecrow is made out of a living form of Jonathan Crane's Fear Toxin. In his natural form he cannot speak or be touched, in fact to do either he must possess the form of someone's greatest fear.

Mentally Broken: Samuel Crane was a man who wanted to use the weapon of his great-great-great-great-etc grandfather, the original Scarecrow, to help the world by finding a way to free people from fear. The fact that he is now forced to embody the fears of the people he sought to help to gain brief moments of corporeality weighs heavily upon his mind and is rapidly leading him down a dark road where he must choose to fade into nothingness or embrace his existence as Fear itself.

Lonely: While he did lead a fairly solitary life, Samuel Crane did have friends and companions before the world ended. The fact that most of them died with the rest of the world does not mean that Samuel wishes to go through the rest of his life completely alone. Unfortunately, the only way he can have a true connection with someone would be to find a person willing to fully embrace their fears.

Everything else: He's a cloud that occasionally turns into someone's fears, he doesn't have weapons, vehicles, or resources of any kind.

History: Growing up Samuel Crane had heard the many stories of his infamous ancestor, the Scarecrow, who had created a toxin capable of making his victims hallucinate their greatest fears and it gave him an idea: recreate the formula of the Fear Toxin and find a way to use it to cancel the mind's response to fear, thus ridding humanity of fear forever. After years of work he finally managed to recreate the formula and afterwards he began working on ways to change it.

It was on a day like any other, while running his experiments, that the world and Samuel Crane died together. He was testing a new version of the Fear Toxin in a sealed chamber when the bombs exploded, merging the toxin into his cells in the crucible of nuclear hellfire even as it destroyed his physical form. A tiny amount of the toxin managed to survive the flames and it was days before Samuel found that he could think again. Over the course of years, he managed to form new toxins and 'regrow' himself, he also learned how to take the form of people's fears to gain a temporary corporeal form. Since then he has been working on a way to prolong his physical existence so he can began working on a cure for his condition and hopefully regain his human body.
