The history of Anubis goes back billions of years and across alternate realities to the very first Omnikron Harvest. The most powerful being on this alien planet had the ability to transfer spirits into objects creating a form of immortality. Anyone who picked up the object would find their own spirit suppressed and eventually consumed by the stored spirit allowing consciousness and abilities to transfer from body to body.

Combining his powers with another being with the ability to propel objects forward in time Anubis would appear on the next planet in Omnikron's path, recruit the most powerful supernaturals and then propel them forward in time, slowly building up an army of gods. Not everyone agreed to be recruited and not everyone stayed ahead of Omnikron but over millions of years Anubis was able to build up thousands of god-like spirits imbued in objects waiting to be recovered.

On Earth the Staff of Anubis was discovered in ancient Egypt where Anubis set him and his closest allies up as gods of the land. Other gods carved out their own realms across the globe but friction started to develop and the gods started warring with one another during the long wait for Omnikron to arrive. Sensing the danger of his army fracturing Anubis banished the gods, hiding the relics once more until Omnikron was at Earth's doorstep. When Omnikron finally approached Anubis brought the relics out of hiding quickly reviving thousands of gods.

Together this army of gods were finally able to destroy Omnikron's shields allowing the heroes of Earth to break through and defeat the galactic menace once and for all but at great cost to the gods. Every god was killed but many of their artifacts were also destroyed in the explosion. Anubis' staff was one of the few to survive and shortly after Omnikron's' destruction a new Anubis rose.

With his mission fulfilled it is unsure what his next plans are. Many within SIRE are concerned that he might decide to turn to world domination. While Anubis in and of himself is a powerful combatant capable of firing powerful energy blasts it is his command over the other gods that makes him a truly potential global threat.
