Return to the Keep

(Repeated information from the Introduction)

This is a Dungeons & Dragons 5.0 adventure for 4-5 characters starting at level 1.

The game is based on the classic D&D Basic module Keep on the Borderlands by Gary Gygax, with elements of Into the Borderlands and Return to the Keep on the Borderlands thrown in for good measure, as well as my own world-building.

The adventure will begin in the City of Carrowsport, the capital city of the Duchy of Carras. You are likely citizens of the city (long term or short term) or possibly the lands surrounding it if you’re not a city person. You are not an adventurer (yet). You have another profession or place in Carrowsport society.

Maybe you have thought about adventuring. Maybe you are simply someone looking for the right opportunity. Maybe you are being forced into adventure as penance or as an alternative to other punishment. But no matter what, you have a profession or place in Carrowsport society.
Carrowsport is a human settlement. There are strong pockets of non-human prejudice in the city. Outside of the city, those pockets get even stronger. This doesn’t mean that I want everyone to be human in the campaign, just that I want you to be aware of this story background.

Magic is not widely accepted in Carrowsport. If you are planning on playing a character that practices magic, this is likely either a hidden or unspoken skill, part of your culture, or you are an official student of a mage in town. The Duke who rules Carrowsport and the duchy of Carras does not condemn magic, and even has mages he looks to for councel, but open practice in the city would likely get you into trouble.

You will eventually be escorting a shipment of goods to the Borderland regions to the northwest. You have never been there, and likely you don’t know anyone who has.
All players are welcome.

Please note, I am a rusty GM who is getting back into it after a short absence. I expect things to run smooth, with some hiccups along the way.
