Dog Town Hustle

Skinny had been given his walking papers that morning, though it took him the better part of 2 hours to clear the prison gates. When he walked through the gates for the last time, he had the clothes on his back, $40 release money, a wrist watch, a leather toiletry case and an Edward Bunker paperback. From the town of Ossining, it was an hour and a half downriver on the Hudson Line to Grand Central.

The other passengers eye his prison dungarees warily. They give a wide berth. Fine by Skinny. He had room to put his feet up.

Stepping off the train and into the thrum of New York City, Skinny feels disoriented. The sights, sounds and smells are all new again. On the platform, and up the stairs onto the main concourse, the sensorium hits him full in the face. Diesel fumes. An overflowing trash bin. A Cuban cigar. French fries. Coco Chanel perfume. He pauses at the entrance to the concourse. The hum and scuff of the crowd, a thousand lives, and a thousand stories, crisscrossing under one roof: the vaulted ceiling of Grand Central. It had been seven years since he’d been in such an enormous architectural space. His eyes travel unbidden upward to the celestial mural far above his head.

This is New York City. And he’s back. Skinny D'Arcangelo is back.

Dog Town Hustle is a realistic solo RP adventure in the violent and dangerous underworld of 1977 New York. You're a small-time criminal learning the streets; you have 90 days to raise $100,000 dollars by whatever means possible: beg, borrow, hustle, steal. It's up to you how you do it.

Space is always open for mature, character-driven players to join the game. Other solo players will be playing in the same borough at the same time. You may or may not cross paths with them; they might become your allies or your enemies.

Dog Town Hustle is also a celebration of the music and culture of the 1970s. You should familiarise yourself with the subcultures and politics of the time to develop character concepts and hustles to match the seedy, desperate, urban theme. Player and character diversity is encouraged, and I’m happy to discuss character concepts with you.
