Of Salt and Portals
This game will use the books Ghosts of Saltmarsh and Yawning Portal for setting. The two books updates a lot of past adventures and dungeons. As a result  This game will have a good deal of combat and dungeons. There will still be exploration and social obstacles but characters need to be motivated to work together and find solutions to the task at hand. No evil characters please.

My time is limited; because of this combat is without a grid, maps will be shared via google docs and I will ask that players place their marching order in their bios.  It is my hope that this streamlines combat and translates well in a play by post environment.

A "downtime" thread will be open at all times. Here players can advance personal goals or spend their gold. Players are free to post in this thread regardless if they are out adventuring. Gold will be plentiful and I want players to have a means of acquiring specific magic items.

Creativity will be rewarded, be that in combat or out. Improvised actions, Illusions, and  creative skill usage are welcomed.

The following array will be used to determine attributes: 16, 14, 13, 12, 10, 9. players start at level 1, everyone starts with a feat. Characters start with the gear from their class and their backgrounds. Use only WOTC material please, no third party classes, races or spells.

If you are still interested please:
provide an idea for a character and answer the following.

Are they native to Saltmarsh?

Why did they stop doing their background and start adventuring? Where did they get the money to purchase starting gear or if you come from a wealthy background, why donít they have more money?

How did they learn the skills of your class? What sets you apart from ordinary people who share your background?

Do they have a rival? Family? Friends?

What would be an ideal random encounter while adventuring? What would be especially troubling?

if you could have a common magic item, what would it be?
