Rhu Aeneas

Name: Rhu Aeneas

Occupation: Rune Mage / Tattoo artist

Actual Age/Apparent Age: Unknown / 32

Gender: Male

Sexuality: Unknown

Race/Species: Likely at least part human, but it's difficult to tell

Appearance: Towering above most at a whopping 6'5", Rhu carries himself like he is very aware of his height, thus constantly seeming to hunch over a little bit. However, when he stands up straight, it is obvious that he had come from a background where he was no stranger to physical labor. He has a wide, though proportional torso, long, lean limbs, broad shoulders, and a narrow waist. One could even say that he had spent quite a lot of time swimming, given how his body is built.

His skin is pale, matching the shoulder-length hair, the color of wheat under the moonlight. A couple of braids usually swing alongside the sides of his face, set at the front of slightly tipped ears.

Upon closer inspection, his skin is all but covered in seemingly a thousand little nicks and scars, all appearing old and well-healed over.

His eyes are a pale silvery-gold color, very similar to his hair, sharp and piercing, often expressing more than one could say via verbal means.

Both of his arms, from his fingertips, up to his elbows, are covered in tattoos, depicting strange, but symmetrical black lines and symbols, some of them recognizable to users of the arcane arts, some completely incomprehensible, though with some obvious method and sense to them.

Personality: "Closed off, mute, and brooding" is what an acquaintance or a neighbour would describe him as. It is not too far from the truth, as far as surface appearances go. But those who know him longer soon become aware that he is simply a man who enjoys his privacy, enjoys his work and his hobby, and prefers not to meddle in other people's affairs, preferring to keep to himself.

Abilities/Skills:

Rune magic: Knowledgeable in the art of Rune magic, Rhu is capable of casting magic via painting runes and symbols on surfaces made out of any solid material, as well as living flesh. Though he can likely do much more with it than one would anticipate, the primary use for it shows in his work, where, for a fee, he can tattoo or paint permanent or semi-permanent protection circles on people, as well as symbols for good luck, skill enhancement, and similar things. His spells work better and last longer when they are drawn on people, instead of items.

Tattoo artist: Rhu makes his bread by being a plain decorative tattoo artist as well. Instead of needles, he uses a special blend of absorbent paint and a set of precise paintbrushes to draw the lines with, and can make the tattoo as elaborate and as permanent as the customer wants it.

He can also painlessly remove unwanted permanent tattoos and markings, which he charges for, with the exception of removing the slave markings of former slaves. He does those for free.

Ink weaver: he has a strange ability to make ink move and stick to anything he wants. It's mostly just for visual purposes, to make his life a bit easier, by "writing" words he cannot speak without bothering to use a brush every single time.

Lantern maker: As a side-job, or better said, a hobby, Rhu also dabbles in making mosaic lanterns out of colored glass and metal. Dozens of them can be seen hung all around his parlor, with the assumption that he has more stashed somewhere else. Each lantern appears to be lit, but upon further inspection, it's not a candle that's inside, but some sort of a small, solid glowing orb - likely naught but a glass bauble he had somehow managed to make it glow.

The lanterns also have a strange quirk of not being able to be resold, only given away. This is due to Rhu marking every single one with a rune that prevents it, insisting that they may only be given as gifts.

History: Over four years ago, Rhu had been discovered and taken in by the Sisters at the edge of the Great Woods, right at the border of Al-Jalasan territory. He had no belongings with him, only dressed in plain, linen pants and a shirt, with no shoes or any other items on him, save for a few small, iron beads holding the ends of his braids together. Upon attempting to remove them, the Sisters soon discovered that neither the beads would slide off, nor can the hair they were clipped onto can be cut off, thus forcing them to leave them where they are.

He did not seem to resist when he was taken in and thrown into a cage. Nor when he was "persuaded" to speak via not-so-gentle means by the Sisters. He remained calm, almost disinterested in their actions, ending up having them frustratingly jot him down as an Unknown Name and Origin, and strive to break him and "make him pure", resorting to, progressively worsening methods, as their usual ones of making desirable slaves had failed, for the strange man barely blinked at all and any attempts to cause him pain.

He was eventually bought by the lady of the Nashan Estate and liberated soon after, making him a free man and allowing him to find himself a source of income. Two years ago, he left the odd jobs he was doing for various houses and merchants, and bought off a small one-story house, turning the ground level into a tattoo parlor, and the upper floor into living space for himself.
