Driders or Arachnids are an all female species that live within the Eastern Mountains, their settlements are generally hidden within the mountains themselves and the entrances to them within valleys or hard to reach crevice's, which they themselves easily get by virtue of being able to effortlessly climb up or down the rocky cliff faces.

Despite being a all female species the Driders don't have to many problems keeping up their numbers, they can mate with anyone and produce a nest of 18 to 24 children out of it, all of which who like their mother will be Driders, though not all of a given nest reach maturity. For the first few years of their lives they are solely dependent on their mothers milk and competition is fierce amongst a nest during these years to. In years of plenty about 50-60% might make it past these first few years and go on to become adults in leaner years, as few as four will be expected to make it, all simply due to the amount of milk a mother Drider can make being dependent on how much food she can eat to sustain herself.

They take a long time to reach maturity, though they grow fast for their first few years of life, going from a tiny spider bodied person to a toddler stuck on a appropriately sized spider body, at which point their growing starts slowing down.. Till they hit about eight years old.. At which point they tend to look like a young pre-teen girl(with a spiders body). From there on out it takes them about a century to reach physical maturity, as they are fairly large and physically powerful beings.

Driders are known to be a friendly, but reclusive species. They maintain a few known villages or rather trading posts on the outer edges of the Eastern Mountain ranges, which gives outsiders the impression each village has a diverse set of patterns exist within their villages, though this would be false. The actual settlements of the Driders are in fact large extensive homes of a given family, with the oldest of them sitting at its head as the families Matriarch. They are known to be open to traders, trading metals and gems mined from the mountains as well as raw high quality spidersilk and of course items made with these materials, though their skills as smiths leaves much to be desired for, their skills at weaving silk and cutting gems lets them easily produce high quality silk items and finely cut gems.

Their carapace is known to be a strong and durable material one could make items of, if they knew how to work with the material, but its rare to get as only freshly harvested carapace would of use for such things. The carapace on their hands ends in razor sharp talons they can use to cleanly cut through their own silk, prey or people attacking them.

As a people Driders are very honourable, they always keep their ends of a deal and keep their words, despite given the latter out only rarely. Despite having a fairly conflict avoidant and pacifistic outward appearance, if backed into a corner the Drider people can and do lash out with a surprisingly
fierceness when it comes to defending their own.

Appearance:

Zhialnee is of a normal height for a Drider, standing at a impressive 2.57m/8'4" tall and weighs about 102kg/224.4 lbs. Her hair is always kept short, a personal preference of herself and something she maintains herself as well. She often wears silk covers over her hands as to prevent her from accidentally cutting people open with her sharp taloned hands.

Personality:

Zhialnee is a curious and occasionally somewhat naïve young Drider. Having grown up in times of plenty meant she had a plethora of sisters. She is very strongly driven by a strong sense of kindness, though that doesn't mean she just does anything for free either.

Abilities/Skills:

Universal to all Driders

Eyes: Driders have six eyes, usually coloured red but the colours can vary between individuals. Driders can see ultraviolet rays with their eyes and see perfectly in the dark.

Climbing: All Driders are excellent climbers and faster then one might expect of someone as large as they are.

Pedipalp limbs: While typical spiders use their pedipalp limbs (the two front-most limbs) to assist in eating like typical human hands, the Drider's do not reach their mouth, plus they have actual hands for holding food. Instead they are used to help carry or hold things as they walk or work, though like their hands the tips of these limbs are sharp and can be used for self defence.

Exoskeleton: Drider lower bodies are covered by a hard, though light, exoskeleton. They possess sharp claws on the ends of their fingers which are used to cut open prey.

Lungs: Driders have two sets of lungs; a set of lungs in their human torso that are like a human's (inflates and deflates to draw oxygen into the blood cells, as well as separate carbon dioxide), and a set of lungs in their spider abdomen called "Book Lungs", that all arachnids have, that absorb oxygen into the body from the environment without the Arachne needing to "breath" in or out. Which helps them stay oxygenated in areas where breathing through lungs would otherwise prove difficult.

Spinneret: While possessing a primary spinneret at the rear of their opisthosoma (spider abdomen), from which they are able to produce and emit silk like a typical spider, Driders also possess spinnerets in their wrists which can emit silk in a similar manner. It is unknown whether the different spinnerets can emit different types of silk, at different lengths, thicknesses and strengths, or if they possess the same capabilities and they simply opt to use whichever spinneret is most convenient.

Drider silk: Drider silk is a rare(purely because the people producing it control the supply going out into the world at large) and valuable commodity.

Specific to Zhialnee

Seamstress and weaver: Like many of her people Zhialnee is a trained seamstress and weaver. Though she is one the few truly trained to be as such and as a result she is highly skilled at weaving just about anything at a surprisingly high quality using any given textile, though she does greatly prefer to work with her own silks.

History:

Zhialnee was born as part of a nest of 21 one spiderlings and despite being born in times of plenty, only herself and nine of her siblings made it past the first few years of life. At a young age Zhialnee showed an interest in weaving and like most that seek to learn those skills started her training at a young age.

It was only twenty years after she became an adult, at the age of 120 that her teacher, an aunt of hers had finally degreed that she was a trained seamstress. For the next ten years Zhialnee lived within her home, built into one of the higher peaks of the Eastern Mountains, though as she had a curiosity for the outside world she often volunteered to make the trek down to one of the trading posts, carrying what her home had to offer to the trading posts with her and carrying goods back home and to the homes of neighbouring settlements with her.

It was during one of the trips to a trading post that a incident occurred that looked like it might have threatened to escalate into full armed conflict between a well armed merchant caravan and the trading post. The incident involved the accidental damaging of goods by a young and still growing Drider child, the goods in this case being slaves. The traders demanded recompense for the damages and threatened to take it by force if not given.

Zhialnee hearing of this intervened and offered a deal instead, she herself would take on the debt of the damaged goods and trade herself to them, to be sold as a slave to pay for it and in return for a large shipment of silk and precious gems the damaged goods would be bought by the Driders at the original market price. Zhialnee took a chance to say goodbye to those of her siblings who where with her and promised them she'd come back one day, once she had paid of her debt. That promise was made seventy years ago, Zhialnee has gone through a dozen or so owners, some who bought her as a pleasure slave and then sold her once the novelty wore off. Some who thought to get in the business of selling Drider Silk made products, only to be forced to sell her again once their business failed because one Drider could not produce the quantity of goods they needed.
Zhialnee has been counting, every year what money she had earned under any one of her owners and due to how quickly she was sold on again never really made any solid progress on paying the debt of.
