Terran Dumonte

Name: Terran Dumonte

Occupation: Landscaper/Lesser Noble

Actual Age/Apparent Age: 300/low-mid 30s

Gender: male

Sexuality: hetero

Race/Species: human

Appearance: Dark hair frames a weathered face, hardened with somber lines, but what stands out most is the intense blue eyes. Eyes that see the entire room. Eyes that follow his quarry, even when they seem to not. Eyes that see everything and betray nothing. Terran shows only what he wants seen, only what he wants someone to know. This makes him come across as a hard man, and in many ways, he is. Strong shoulders lead to the muscular build of a man used to working with his hands, though not overly bulky.

When using his geomancing powers, strange runes not recognized by others appear etched in his forehead and chest, and what are normally piercing blue eyes turn a deep amber, almost glowing brown.

Terran can usually be found wearing blues and greens in comfortable clothing, unless he is at the Proving Grounds. There, the colors don’t change, but what does is the armor worn, as well as the weapons. A long billowing hooded cape rounds out the attire. Under the hood sits a mask serving to hide his identity from those that would use it against him.

Personality: Terran is a quiet man that generally keeps to himself. He is the type to play his cards close to the chest, showing only what he wants people to see, aware as he is of the many eyes Al Jalasa has, and that not many of them are friendly.

All seem to know him as a landscaper, using his magic to terraform the grounds, but even then his attire and home seem much more elaborate than is expected from a lesser noble that built his own reputation. What they don’t know is how he earns the rest of his money when funds get tight or he just wants a little extra.

He has nice things, though not many, choosing to spend his money wisely and on items he deems important, rather than lavish things that, in his mind, serve no purpose other than to take up space. It gives him an air of discernment that some might consider stuck-up, when really he knows what he likes, and what he wants to surround himself with.

Abilities/Skills: Terraforming - as a Geomancer, Terran is adept at creating fertile land where there is none, as well as turning lands barren, should he find the need. He can’t go so far as making mountains pop up from nowhere, but smaller pieces of land, such as setting up a garden, is well within his abilities.

Trained fighter - Terran has spent time learning sword fighting, and hand-to-hand combat, and honed swords and hand-to-hand in the Proving Grounds as Skarn, the mysterious masked fighter that shows up from time to time with a variety of weapons across his back, sword in hand, and true identity hidden. He has spent decades learning and improving until he could no longer remember the last time he waws beaten in a fight.

History: Not many are alive today that recall Terran’s start, creating landscapes for the Nobles and other odd jobs that left him tired and sore at the end of the day. Fewer still remember the scraggly man walking out of the Great Forest and into Al Jalasa. None know where Terran truly came from or much of anything before his arrival, as if the man walking out of the Great Forest and the lesser noble were two different people.

Yet today, if anyone asks for any sort of Terraforming, it is Terran’s name that comes to mind first. He spent a century at least building his business into the sprawling reputation it is today, with people working under him as well, taking on the easier jobs and only having to get involved when terraforming is truly needed.

This allowed him the time to hone his skills, entering the Proving Grounds when he felt like it to challenge whatever gladiators were fighting at the time. His alter-ego name - Skarn - echoing out from the stands, chanted over and over when they saw his tell-tale billowing cape and mask waiting quietly for an opponent to ready himself. Many gladiators were bested by his hand, leaving the crowd craving a match between him and the ShieldBreaker.

Yet, Skarn never once appeared on the days Garthurax was to fight. No one knows who Skarn fights for, the cynical fighter who never seemed to find a true challenge in the men, nor who he truly was. He never appeared on the schedule, either, leaving everyone to wonder and talk about the mystery that was the man behind the mask.

Many thought he might fear a battle with the famed Gladiator, but in truth, Skarn respected the horned man. He whispered fighting secrets in his ear that taught Garth much of what he knows today, he sat in the dark dungeons below quietly teaching Garth to read after fights.

As of the last few decades, however, even Skarn has been seen at the Proving Grounds less and less, the cynicism in his fighting taking on a more theatrical tone as if he, too, grew tired of the lack of quality fighters as what was once noble battles has devolved into scared slaves unprepared for any sort of fight thrown against a much stronger adversary, providing a slaughter rather than a battle of skill and wits.
