Kiera Wilson

Character Name: Kiera Wilson

Code name: Taurus (although she used to call herself She-Bull, which she regrets)

Alias: Kay, Kiri, Kiki (her mother only)

Physical Description: At her most comfortable Kiera can probably be found wearing old denim jeans and a faded flannel shirt over an old band t-shirt, muddy and beautiful, elbow deep in the womb of a pregnant steer, assisting a birth. Her dark hair is a wild waterfall of ebony but she just as often keeps it in braids. Her ruddy complexion, dark eyes and stern features mark her Apache blood as plainly as the traditional tribal tattoos that sleeve her right arm. She is short, athletic and pretty in an untamed and fierce way.

When her powers are activated fully she goes from a sleek 5'5 to a towering 7'9, corded with muscle. Her features take on a more broad and bestial vestige and powerful forward facing horns sprout from her brow. She grows a bovine tail and her hands and feet thicken from dainty digits to wide powerful ones. Surprisingly no hooves.

Personality: Among strangers and non-natives Kiera enjoys cultivating the fierce image of a stoic aboriginal, especially on deployment. And to a certain extent that's a very real part of her. She can be stern, direct, enduring and reserved. But she can also be boisterous, energetic and rowdy. She says what she thinks and means what she says. Kiera saves that side of herself for those she knows and trusts but mostly she just gets a kick out of confusing people by appearing firstly as stereotypes might suggest before bucking those preconceptions like a bronco come rodeo time.

Kiera acts long-suffering when it comes to war but there's not denying she has a talent for it as a tracker, a medic, and in the heat of battle as an unstoppable horned bipedal battering ram. And the truth is she enjoys the violence she visits on others from beneath those deadly horns just a little more than she'd like to admit. There's anger inside her for so many things and when she grows and bellows and fights, she gets to vent that outrage onto people her government promises her are bad.

Motivation: There is a surprising and proud history of military service in Kiera's family on her mother's side, albeit on the male end. Her brother would have followed their grandad's example but he died suddenly and tragically when she was fourteen while trying to break up a fight at a house party on the res. Though her own dreams had been to follow in their mother's footsteps as a veterinarian Kiera enlisted instead, training as a medic.

Powers: Kiera's powers are that of the bull. Even in her human form she's superhumanly strong and superhumanly durable, able to lift a small car over her head as easily as someone might help lift a small couch. She has keen senses and is in touch with the ways of nature.

When she transforms into her bovine form her strength increases exponentially as does her resilience. Her horns are sharp and dangerous and long and she can ram down all but the most reinforced walls with relative ease. Like a charging bull, Kiera is startlingly swift and can keep pace with conventional hover cars and bikes on foot, her super-natural endurance allowing her to run for hours.

Weaknesses: Outside her bull form Kiera has low-key super-strength and endurance and that's about it. Not much going for her. Worse, in her bull form her typically delicate fingers become broad and thick -- great for strangling Tangos, not so great for stitching GSWs in the heat of battle, forcing her to choose between her true calling, preserving life, and the function the brass might otherwise prefer, taking it. It also means Kiera is vulnerable while fulfilling her function as a combat medic. She simply can't have her cake and eat it too.

Further to the issue, her bovine war form is neither subtle nor stealthy. She is heavy and what she gains in strength and endurance she sacrifices in agility and subtlety. Her senses similarly are blunted, her vision no longer in colour, handicapping her in delicate situations and making her particularly vulnerable to camouflaged combatants. While training has helped to lessen these handicaps, she still finds herself grossly disadvantaged.

History: Kiera grew up on the northern part of the res where the Jicarilla Apache's lands cross into the treed Rockies under a loving mother and an absent father. By the time she was six he was gone. Not lost, just not around. In her adulthood and with the loss of her older brother, their relationship has become closer but strained.

Kiera's powers came with puberty and for a year or so she was the subject of some small scientific interest. Though her powers are clearly mutation, she is one of what some mutant scholars called the Zodiac Twelve. Twelve children, disconnected by any other through-line of race, creed, or geography, who's mutations coincide with the Western Zodiac. This came with some playful chagrin on the part of her family that her blessings could be so readily tied to the shape of colonizer superstition. But her people are an accepting people and they passed no judgment beyond some gentle ribbing now and again at gatherings and potlucks. The greatest irony is none of the Twelve's powers coincide with their actual Zodiac based on their birth date (but the Scholars have noted they do match the calculated dates of their conception).

Her young life was spent mostly on the reservation although she did attend public school in town, ensuring a broad exposure to cultural norms outside her own. When her older brother Kanlin died before enlisting, she ultimately decided to follow his path to honour him and the grandfathers who'd come before and served both their nation and the nation in which their nation resides. When she turned 18 she joined up, hoping to keep her mutant powers a secret. She trained as medic and a scout in advanced recon until her squad came under fire and got pinned down. She did what anyone with powers would do, she tries to tell herself, and that's how she wound up in the Devils.
