Theoros

Killed during the 2nd chapter

Theoros, son of Asterion, is the black sheep in an otherwise impeccable family line. It is said that that kings of Phthiotis can trace their blood all the way back to Myrmidon, a child of Zeus. And though Theoros shares this proud lineage, his concerns lay not with the crown, but the wider world. Born the third son of King Asterion of Phthiotis in the great city of Lamia, Theoros knew that in the grand scheme he was of little worth to his father. For their legacy was already secure, and he already had an extra child to grow his holdings by marrying him to some minor boarder king. Theoros cared little for his father's machination, or his brother's ambitions. He felt most comfortable with his mother Helice and his two younger sisters.

But despite their companionship, Theoros grew up feeling very lonely. It wasn't until he started going for walks outside of the grand walls of Lamia that he began to feel a sense of wonder at the world. The peasantry could never befriend a royal blooded person, and his family already had enough male heirs. But in nature he found a solidarity with nature and all the creatures in it. They never judged, they simply accepted everything as it was. Soon, he was spending more time exploring the wilds of Phthiotis than attending his lessons. It got to the point that every few weeks, Theoros would take off into the wilderness, and stay there, ignoring his family and duties. And every few weeks, King Asterion would have to send out a search party to track him down and bring him back home.

Thinking that perhaps life in the military would temper his wild spirit, and teach him discipline, King Asterion enlisted Theoros into the Myrmidons. For his part, Theoros enjoyed the camaraderie of military men, and took to the martial training quite well. It wasn't long that after years of training, Theoros was being sent out with the vanguard for any border skirmish Phthiotis might have. His commanders were wise enough to utilize his knowledge of the surrounding countryside by often attaching him to scouting parties, despite his highborn status. For six years he served in the Myrmidons, and saw quite a few skirmishes, as well as assisted in the slaying of any monster that might threaten Phthiotis lands.

But when his time of service finally ended, Theoros found himself back in Lamia, suffering from extreme boredom, as he had no passion for statecraft or even the minor duties of rulership his father sought to give him. His heart sang to sleep under the stars. To hold sword in hand and charge some powerful foe. In short, he felt the call of the wild and warrior.

So one night, after a terrible argument with his father, Theoros gathered his belongings, kissed his mother and sister goodbye, and took to the nearest ship out of Phthiotis that he could find. But despite this bold move to be free and follow his own path, the young man found that he still had a powerful need to eat. But he had a good sword arm, and a knowledge of war and the wilderness. Two assets in the world of the sellsword. And so for about two years now, Theoros of Phthiotis has been making his way through the known world as a common mercenary. Traveling where his whims take him, and seeking out coin in compensation for great martial deeds.

And he has never been happier.
